Uluru (Ayers Rock) will take centre stage this October as the Darwin Symphony Orchestra will perform for the first time to this magnificent, iconic backdrop.
Tickets are now on sale for this world-class concert series on 18th and 19th October 2013 with prices starting from £59 per ticket (AU$95 plus booking fee).
The opening night presents Viva Verdi, an operatic spectacular celebrating the 200th anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, with Opera Australia Principal Artists Emma Matthews (soprano) and James Egglestone (tenor). The second evening at Uluru – Sounds of Australia - will feature a showcase of Indigenous and contemporary Australian music, including jazz musician James Morrison and didgeridoo player William Barton.
Fleur Burrows, UK Regional Manager for Tourism Northern Territory Australia says: “No orchestra has played in this iconic location ever before and this concert series will put the spotlight on Central Australia, encouraging travellers to come and experience the natural wonders this region has to offer.”
“A maximum of 1,200 tickets are available for each Uluru concert. Due to the remote nature of the event and limited accommodation, we recommend that people book tickets sooner rather than later” added Burrows.
Ticket prices start from £56 (95AU$ plus booking fee) per ticket, up to the ‘Ultimate Experience’ priced at £294 (AU$ 495 plus booking fee ) per ticket which includes the Sounds of Silence dinner, premium concert ticket, drinks package and the opportunity to meet the orchestra after the show. Stay at Ayers Rock Resort and book the special two-night ‘Outback Symphony’ package from £302 per person (AU$519) based on twin share, including accommodation, breakfast, concert tickets, Indigenous guest activities, transfers and use of a shuttle bus service www.ayersrockresort.com.au/dso/.
The performance will be led by Orchestra Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Mathew Wood who has played a pivotal part in making this concert happen. Prior to joining the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Matthew Wood held the position of Associate Conductor with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and has worked with a number of other leading UK orchestras including the Royal Ballet Covent Garden.
