A stunning new five-kilometre-long beginners' downhill mountain bike trail in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons is set to welcome riders this weekend (Friday, 13th November).

Ideal for competent bike riders looking for excitement, BikePark Wales' green Kermit trail delivers all the thrills and exhilaration of downhill mountain biking with bermed corners, rock slabs, roller coaster sections and exhilarating tree-lined flow sections.

However, its unique design ensures bike speed can always be controlled, making it the perfect introduction to the world of mountain biking and a fun way for families to enjoy the great outdoors after lockdown.

The Kermit trail was originally due to open in the spring, but had to be delayed due to the coronavirus and only saw a brief period of operation this summer.

Now to celebrate the opening, BikePark Wales is offering half day sessions (2hr 45mins); including bike, helmet and equipment hire plus full access to the five-kilometre Kermit trail and unlimited free bus uplift trips back to the top of the run from £46pp on Friday and £50pp at weekends (suitable for children aged eight or over).

“It may have been a long time coming but we're so excited to finally be able to share this amazing new trail with riders,” said BikePark Wales' Founder and Director Martin Astley.

“At five kilometres long, the Kermit trail offers an awesome introduction to downhill mountain biking in a stunning location. There's nothing like it anywhere else in the UK and it's a unique way for beginners and families to enjoy their first taste of this fun sport in a safe and controlled manner,” he added.

With just 24 slots available each day to comply with social distancing guidelines, places are strictly limited.

Located in the beautiful forested hillsides of the Gethin Woodland Centre, near Merthyr Tyfil, BikePark Wales is a unique mountain biking venue, with a network of over 40 trails for riders of all abilities.

Swooping bermed runs, tight gnarly rock sections, jump trails, drop offs and the UK's longest green downhill trail. A team of professional trail builders maintain and devise new trails to ensure incredible trail conditions, whatever time of year, and something new to try with every visit.
