Bulgaria's 'Best Golf Hotel', Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort, looks set for a bumper 2015 after announcing its UK bookings are already 50 per cent ahead of last year.
The stunning Black Sea Resort – named Bulgaria's 'Best Golf Hotel' at last year's inaugural World Golf Awards – is primed to receive an unprecedented increase in the number of guests travelling from the UK, buoyed by a number of factors.
Following its high-profile staging of the 2013 Volvo World Match Play Championship, Thracian Cliffs scooped the award of European Golf Resort of the Year 2014, bestowed by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).
A sustained PR and media campaign commenced last summer, designed to educate UK golfers on the cultural, climatic and financial benefits of visiting the Black Sea Coast, not to mention the opportunity to play one of the world's most spectacular courses.
A spokesperson for Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort said: “The UK is the largest market in Europe for travelling golfers and the reputation of the resort has increased recently with the various multi-platform activities, and the honours bestowed upon it.
“We have invested wisely at the resort to enhance the visitor experience, not only on the golf course, but across the facilities and it would appear this is being recognised by the industry. And that has, subsequently, been reflected in the massive increase in the number of bookings we have already taken from the UK for 2015 – and we expect the numbers to rise steadily throughout the year.”
Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort has gained many admirers since opening in 2011, with images of the sensational cliff-top Gary Player golf course being transmitted around the world.
Situated on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, the resort is also a haven for non-golfers, offering a choice of two high-spec residential villages – many with panoramic sea views – gourmet restaurants, a bijou spa and its own beach club, all within the unique environment of the Cape Kaliakra coast, which, lying, as it does, further south than Florence, Monaco or Marseille, benefits from a desirable climate.
Indeed, Player himself said of Thracian Cliffs: “You will not find a golf course like this anywhere else on the planet. Pebble Beach is renowned as the best site and I would say Thracian Cliffs is twice as good as Pebble Beach.”
The beautiful cliff‑top course offers stunning sea views from every hole with the signature par-three sixth providing particularly incredible vistas as you look down to the green which is found surrounded by the lapping waves of the Black Sea. From the tips it measures almost 231 yards – a real test of golf and concentration.
The award-winning resort is currently offering golfers the opportunity to play three rounds on its spectacular Player-designed course as part of a seven-night package – available in April from €699 (around £515) per person – that includes one round on each of the neighbouring courses, BlackSeaRama and the Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort.
In addition to wall-to-wall golf, the package includes return transfers from Varna airport, a shared buggy for each round, and free use of the driving range at Thracian Cliffs, as well as access to the fitness area, hammam, steam bath and Jacuzzi at the resort's spa.
The temperate climate at Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort is ideal for the regular special events which take place on the unspoiled Bendida Beach, located directly on the seafront of the resort. And, with a bottle of beer in Bulgaria costing around 68p* – the lowest of all holiday hot-spots in Europe – and a three-course evening meal for two, with wine, available for under £28*, the country is clearly one of the best-value destinations around.
