DETROIT (Sept. 5, 2023)—The U.S. Travel Association's “Travel Works for America” national tour will visit Detroit for the first time, where local, state and national public and private sector travel leaders will hold a spotlight event on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Media are invited to the Wright Museum for this open press event. Cameras are welcome. Stand-up interview opportunities available onsite.
The event is part of a national tour focused on how travel works for the Detroit region and communities across Michigan. Officials will address the importance of travel to the local economy and workforce, its impact on the business community, and the industry's role in powering mobility, innovation and global competitiveness—timed at the forefront of the North American International Auto Show as Detroit prepares to welcome thousands of visitors. Travel Works also highlights the intersection of travel, transportation and technology, where companies such as GM and Delta Air Lines—who will appear as panelists at the event [send.ustravel.org]—will discuss game-changing initiatives they are leading in Detroit and throughout Michigan.
In 2022, travel spending in the United States generated $2.6 trillion in economic output and supported jobs for nearly 15 million American workers. Visitors to Detroit directly spent $9.2 billion last year, and domestic and international travelers to Michigan spent $24 billion (direct) in 2021, generating hundreds of thousands of jobs across the state.
