Ready-to-go news from the TURNER roster…

  • New Clients:
    • Viceroy Chicago, located in the Gold Coast, and on the site of a 120-year-old landmark building — one of the best hotels near the Windy City's Magnificent Mile. Guestrooms feature views of Lake Michigan, and are a short walk to Michigan Avenue, the city's best restaurants and shopping.
    • Terramor Outdoor Resort, located in Bar Harbor, Maine, is a thoughtful retreat committed to authentic, immersive experiences in nature. Guests at Terramor are treated to the romance of a camping adventure, blended with the amenities of a resort. At Terramor, it's so much more than tents, but what till you see the tents!
    • Opened in August 2020, The Clancy Hotel is San Francisco's most pet-friendly property featuring a nightly “Yappy Hour” with barktails and a tasty treat menu, plus doggy robes and other amenities for furry guests. The 410-room property features ultra-modern guest rooms, dramatic art-filled public spaces including a coffee shop, lobby bar and restaurant, all influenced by the SoMa neighborhood around them.
    • The Slate Denver, located inside the historic, original Emily Griffith School of Opportunity campus, is currently being renovated as a 251-guest room property. The hotel is expected to open in Fall 2021 with thoughtful design touches and experiences inspired by the history of the building.
    • Introducing Well Traveled – the members-only social platform built for modern travelers. Launched in May 2020, Well Traveled was created by tech veteran Samantha Patil (Dollar Shave Club, Snap Inc., Pandora) and Casi Ticer after struggling to discover, plan and book incredible trips. In search of a connected travel community that could provide trusted recommendations, they created their own. Potential story angles include:
      • Female-founded travel companies (the majority of companies within the industry are founded by men)
      • How tech is driving the future of travel
      • The modern-day answer to TripAdvisor and Yelp
      • What's hot right now: must-see destinations, hotels and restaurants according to booking trends
  • Renovation Update:
    • After months of undergoing renovations, Orlando World Center Marriott has officially reopened its iconic Falls Pool. The pool now features private cabanas and daybeds, expanded food & beverage service, a kids' splash zone and poolside activities. Falls Pool's new elements are part of the property's ongoing multi-million-dollar renovation project, which has included the transformation of guest rooms and suites and new design of its Hawk's Landing Golf Course. Additional upcoming enhancements include: a reimagined “Mikado's” Japanese Steakhouse restaurant, the new “River Falls” water park (slated to open in spring 2022), and the addition of 60,000 square feet of total event space  “Magnolia.”

Deadline Busters

What's the next round-up? We predict:

  • Snow is Coming. It's that time of year again, when our eyes (and skis) turn toward winter:
    • McCoy Park will be Beaver Creek's newest dedicated family-friendly learning terrain opening for Winter '21/'22 season; Park Hyatt Beaver Creek is the family-friendly resort with ski-in, ski-out accommodations (located steps from the ski school), an indoor camping turndown amenity, make-your-own s'mores kits, kids spa treatments at Exhale, an outdoor playground, family board games and more.
    • Viceroy Snowmass has put together an exciting slate of new offerings that run the gamut from ultra-luxurious packages to timely, Olympics-focused celebrations. Some highlights include a new take on an old skiing trope with a “Friends On A Powder Day” package which celebrates being together on the mountain, as well as an Ultra-Luxe “Seamless Ski” experience, which takes all the friction out of your stay from a private jet to a home-stocked fridge to private, guided ski tours. Lastly, in honor of the Olympics in February, the resort will be hosting Après-Olympics with games and excitement for all at the hotel's ski-in, ski-out bar.
  • Warm-Weather Travel Destinations Trending for Thanksgiving:  RedWeek is the largest, most reputable online timeshare marketplace with an audience of more than 2.6 million and an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. In the most basic terms, RedWeek is a timeshare platform that allows any traveler to book a trip from a timeshare owner that isn't using it.
    • The brand has indicated an increase in timeshare rental bookings for Thanksgiving of 46% YoY and anticipate those numbers to increase in the coming weeks.
    • Booking data for Thanksgiving travel shows travelers are favoring warm-weather escapes, with spots such as California's Newport Coast, Marco Island, Florida, Maui, Hawai'i, and Scottsdale, Arizona, among the top 10 domestic destinations so far. Some are even planning international jaunts, with Marriott's Aruba Surf Club topping RedWeek's overall Thanksgiving resorts roundup.
  • National Coffee Day (Sept 29): In Houston, coffee is couture. From hip hop history at the vegan and black-owned Mo' Betta Brews and buying a cup to fight human trafficking at A 2nd Cup to tracing beans all the way back to the farm they came from at BlendIn Coffee Club, Houston is and under-the-radar destination where coffee meets culture.

  • Nebraska Ghost Town Road Trip: Nothing screams Halloween quite like a ghost town-hopping road trip adventure through Nebraska. Get in the spirit with a visit to St. Deroin cemetery, a final rest stop for one of Nebraska's earliest settlements, before heading on to Mariaville. From there, travel west to DeWitty and finally Antioch, a small boom town known for potash.

Writer's (Un)Block

Great ideas we love that haven't been covered (yet)…

  • Unexpected Wine Getaways: Move over Napa, there are plenty of undiscovered wine regions throughout the U.S.:
  • Albuquerque is in one of the oldest wine regions in the country, with vines brought in by Spanish monks in the late 1500's
  • Wisconsin's AVA Wine Region encompasses 38,000 square miles from Cedarburg to Door County due to a geologic feature called the Niagara Escarpment

    • Nebraska specializes in growing French-American hybrids and American varietals that have shorter growing seasons and are hardy through winter
