Join the TUI Care Foundation on a short trip to Mallorca to find out more about the TUI Forest Mallorca project and TUI Sea the Change Balearics.

TUI Forest Mallorca

The Llevant Natural Park in north-western Mallorca, with its pristine landscapes and 5200-year history, faces wildfire risks due to a century of
degradation. To mitigate this, the TUI Forest Mallorca project offers comprehensive interventions, including forestry operations and strategic
planting of native more fire-resistant trees. The existing enclosure will extend to the coastline, protecting key areas like Cap Ferrutx and Cap des Freu Nature Reserves. In new areas like Son Real, fenced or unfenced small forests will encourage natural reforestation. An adoption scheme will involve the public in supporting the project financially.

The Llevant Natural Park is vital to the tourism industry in north-west Mallorca, attracting visitors with its pristine landscapes. Proactive tourism becomes a win-win solution by enhancing the natural beauty of the area, contributing to ecosystem sustainability. The TUI Forest project aligns with responsible tourism, establishing a harmonious relationship between conservation efforts and economic activities.

TUI Sea the Change Balearics

The Balearic Islands, renowned for their well-preserved marine environment, face increasing threats from overpopulation and pollution, leading to the deterioration of the natural marine ecosystem over the past decade. In response, TUI Sea the Change Balearics has been launched with the aim of enhancing the marine environment by addressing issues like the impact of fishing practices and restoring shallow water bays. The initiative also seeks to empower local organizations for more effective marine conservation and establish connections with the tourism sector to drive positive change.

Recognizing the vital link between a healthy marine and coastal environment, the project is crucial for the economic prosperity of the Balearic Islands and the well-being of its residents. Pressures from overpopulation, fisheries, and maritime activities have led to the loss of habitats and species, necessitating urgent action for restoration and preservation. Building on the collaborative efforts of the Marilles Foundation over the past six years, TUI Sea the Change Balearics focuses on strategic priorities, aiming to transform the Balearic fishing fleet into the most sustainable one in the Mediterranean.

1) Sustainable fisheries: creation of sustainable management plans for Balearic fisheries.
2) Shallow water bay restoration: working to restore shallow water bays in two locations by planting, restoring and nurturing
seagrass meadows. This will be complemented by community engagement activities to build local support alongside policy work to
encourage local and regional governments to act.
3) Training local marine NGOs working on marine issues with the aim of strengthen their organisation and increasing their impact
and effectiveness
