Canberra has been named in the top 10 on TripAdvisor's 2013 Travellers' Choice™ Awards for Destinations on the Rise for the South Pacific region.

VisitCanberra Director Ian Hill welcomed yesterday's announcement saying authentic, user-generated reviews on sites such as TripAdvisor were 'today's travel currency'.

'We have come in at number six as a hot spot for travellers and this speaks volumes for the fantastic array of  experiences we have here in Canberra," Mr Hill said.

'Where else can you pat a cheetah, catch a blockbuster exhibition, ride a segway around a beautiful lake, tackle world-class mountain bike trails and explore more than 30 cellar doors within 35 minutes of a city CBD. And that's just a small taste of what Canberra has to offer.'

The TripAdvisor Choice™ Awards are a good indicator of the quality of experiences available in destinations worldwide and having Canberra on the TripAdvisor map bodes well for encouraging more people to enjoy our fabulous city and surrounds.

'Visitors talking about and sharing their experiences shows what an engaging story Canberra has and the TripAdvisor recognition is supported by our own recent advocacy campaign The Human Brochure.'
