Almost 200 journalists and over 130 exhibitors attended TravMedia's packed International Media Marketplace (IMM) at London's Dorchester this week (March 3).
The website's second-ever day-long marketplace attracted 197 journalists from national newspapers, broadcast media, top glossies, online titles and trade press, who were joined at the exhibition-style event (www.travmedia.com/imm) by many leading freelance writers.
A massive 3182 meetings were pre-booked between journalists and standholders through TravMedia's live IMM event website (http://immuk.travmedia.com/) - almost three times as many as at the inaugural IMM twelve months ago.
Exhibitors, up by over 50% on 2013, also reported large numbers of 'turn-up' meetings from journalists across the event's seven scheduled hours for 15-minute meeting appointments. Relationships were also developed during the event's busy lunch and evening networking opportunities.
IMM attracted sponsorship support from The Dorchester and from Canadian Tourism Commission, whose evening drinks reception drew upwards of 150 delegates.
Said Nim Singh, Canadian Tourism Commission's Manager, Media and Public Relations: "The Canadian Tourism Commission and our eight provincial, territorial and commercial partners found IMM to be a useful event to attend, with key editors from national newspapers and magazines actively seeking story opportunities for the coming year.
"We certainly walked away with firm commissions and several potential commissions to follow up on. We would definitely attend again."
Said Henry Hemming, TravMedia UK's Managing Director: "With almost 200 journalists making a beeline to this year's IMM to meet exhibitors from around the world, we're certain IMM has now established its position in the industry's calendar as the must-attend event for travel journalists and PRs.
"The Dorchester was a hubbub of activity for the entire day and we've been inundated with fulsome feedback from the media and PRs alike. We can only humbly thank everyone from their specatacular support."
