In response to the swallowing of the famous toe of the Sourtoe Cocktail fame from the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City, Travel Yukon is creating its own "Wall of Feet" and in partnership with the hotel and the Klondike Visitors Association will be awarding one lucky person a trip to Dawson City from anywhere in the world Air Canada flies.
People are invited to post a photo of their toes on Travel Yukon's Facebook wall. The photos will then be posted to the "Sourtoe Wall of Feet" and five contestants will be chosen from the submissions by a panel of true Yukon sourdoughs, including the original Captain Dick of Sourtoe Cocktail fame.
The five contestants will then be asked to explain why they should be chosen to take their toe (still attached of course) to Dawson City to experience the town and the legendary Sourtoe Cocktail in person, as well as how they will share their journey through social media. The prize package is valued at over CDN$5,000
While the Downtown has received offers of replacement toes for the cocktail, this contest simply asks for a photo of your toe. Robert Service said, "There are strange things done in the midnight sun", so entrants are encouraged to dress their toe up, keep it simple or simply strange!
So be it "gouty", pretty, Plain Jane or gnarly - they want people to post their photos on the Travel Yukon Facebook page, share the "Wall of Feet" album, post your toes and who knows what might happen?
Photos can be posted at www.facebook.com/travelyukon
Background:
Located in the Downtown Hotel, Dawson City, Yukon, the Sourdough Saloon offers a truly unique cocktail known as the 'SourToe'. Featuring a very real - and well-preserved - amputated human toe, to qualify for a certificate authenticating the event - and it truly is an event - you must actually allow the toe to touch your lips. Gagging isn't encouraged; swallowing the toe is a definite no-no. New Sourtoes - as those that have tasted "The Toe" are known - sign the register with corny comments such as "Toe-tally awesome" and "Toe-riffic!"
