Travel-Lists (www.travel-lists.co.uk), the subscription-based online travel directory for British travellers, has introduced clickable phone numbers on its lists for mobile users, enabling users to research travel options more easily while on the move.
Now mobile users can select a tour operator, agency or travel organisation from a Travel-Lists list and simply click to automatically dial their phone number. When the call is finished the user is returned to where they were on the phones display.
It sounds obvious, says Travel-Lists editor, Alastair McKenzie, but online directories are normally oriented towards websites - you find a company you are interested in and you click to go to their website. But thats no good for mobile phones because only the latest 3G phones can begin to surf the web like that. Ordinary WAP enabled phones cant do anything with a web address, but they can with a phone number!
This means for example, you can now easily work your way through a list of specialist stag/hen night organisers or city break operators, phoning the ones that interest you and checking prices or ordering brochures, while you are on the train, in the pub, or in the park.
Travel-Lists currently has a subset of 14 lists available on WAP phones, including activity break operators; villa holiday companies; travel insurance companies; language holiday operators; budget airlines; scuba holiday operators; overseas wedding operators; singles holiday operators, etc.
As with the main website, travel news stories and tip-offs on bargains/late-availability are freely accessible, but there is a charge of .50p for access to the lists, which if confirmed, can go on your phone bill.
