WASHINGTON - U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement after Congress adjourned without finalizing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA):

“It is disappointing that Congress left town without addressing TRIA's expiration on December 31.

“At no cost to U.S. taxpayers, TRIA has become a must-have program across all industries—especially travel. The bipartisan program provides the insurance needed to protect U.S. jobs and prevent economic paralysis in the wake of a terrorist attack. Prior to TRIA's enactment in 2002, America lost an estimated 300,000 jobs after 9/11. The effects cascaded for years.

“U.S. businesses and workers deserve certainty and protection entering the New Year. Congressional leaders should act immediately to give it to them and renew this critical backstop.”
