800,000 train delays ‘cost £1bn’
UK rail passengers suffer 800,000 delays and are poorly informed about them according to the National Audit Office (NAO)*. The watchdog said 14 million minutes were lost by late running trains, costing the public £1bn in lost time.
“At a time when fares are on the increase across the country, passengers have the right to expect that delays are kept to an absolute minimum and to be given information about a delay as promptly as possible, ideally within two minutes.”
"There is nothing more infuriating than being stuck on a train or a platform with no information about the cause of delay and how long it will take to resolve”
The chairman of the House of Commons Public Accounts CommitteeTravAlarm is a free Android app that helps commuters avoid rail & tube delays. The app works like a regular alarm clock, waking you with your choice of radio station or favourite tune.
Where TravAlarm gets clever is in its ability to monitor travel networks whilst you sleep. If it spots an issue that will impact your journey, it will wake you a little earlier so that you can avoid the delay and frustration.
TravAlarm is available as a free download from Google Play.
