Transport Company Shows the Road Down Under is There to be Shared

Down Under Tours

The team at Down Under Tours know a thing or two about the dangers of cycling. A large number of the team take their fitness seriously, and are avid cyclists.  All have had a few close shaves themselves while out riding, and were quick to embrace the local community\'s safety message of its Share the Road campaign, particularly following their own experiences and a spate of fatal accidents including the most recent tragedy involving cyclist Tanya Roneberg.

In a prompt call to action, 12 of the company\'s fleet will become mobile message boards, spreading the word about sharing the road and keeping cyclists safe.  The 1m x 1m black and gold signage will make a bold statement on the rear of each coach featuring an illustration and the wording, \'1.5 Meters Matters, Sharing Saves Lives\'.

According to Down Under Tours Director of Sales and Marketing, James Dixon, there is a role to play by cyclists, cars and heavy vehicles alike. \"Cyclists must obey the road rules, stay in the bike lanes and use the appropriate safety equipment (that is, helmets, front and rear lights). In the same way, cars and heavy vehicles need to respect cyclists - 1.5 metres matters! It is important to remember that every person riding a bike is somebody\'s loved one and they are expecting them home tonight.\"

Down Under Tours Director\'s James and Gordon Dixon, along with the cycling members of their team will assemble on their bikes tomorrow morning to unveil the new safety signage that will start to be seen by motorists on Far Northern roads immediately.
