Over the last four months, TransIndus has been monitoring the Covid-19 situation in India closely, with regular updates from partners and suppliers on the ground and several independent sources.

India's initial response to the pandemic had been promising and with one of the strictest of lockdowns, it managed to contain the virus remarkably well. Some states like Kerala were able to declare themselves Covid-19 free for much of April and May and were held up as a shining example across the world media.

As expected, the country is currently experiencing a second surge following a lifting of lockdown. The largest increases have been seen in India's major cities like Mumbai and Delhi though local lockdowns and testing programmes have been implemented to contain the spread.

To help us and our prospective traveller follow and better understand the evolving situation, TransIndus has pulled data from a number of live sources and developed a tracker for an overview of numbers in different parts of the country and, compare it to number in other parts of the world.

Amrit Singh, MD at TransIndus writes, “We have been monitoring the Covid-19 situation on the ground in India carefully from the start and while the current resurgence following a lifting of lockdowns is disappointing, it is not unexpected. It is gratifying to know that the new outbreaks are restricted to small pockets within major cities, while the bulk of the country continues to see relatively few cases. Goa and Kerala for example, two of India's most popular holiday destinations continue to see very few cases".
