Tourism New South Wales chief executive Tony Thirlwell today called for 127 volunteers to help provide information and service to Sydney's Olympic visitors.
"Sydney has a reputation for being the friendliest city in the world," Mr Thirlwell said.
"We want to build on this reputation by ensuring our Olympic visitors can readily speak to someone about places to go, things to do, and how to get there. Knowledgeable and friendly volunteers are the ideal way to do this."
Mr Thirlwell said Tourism New South Wales is looking for volunteers to assist senior staff at City Host kiosks at Circular Quay, Martin Place and Town Hall, Visitor Information Centres at Darling Harbour and the Rocks - and on consumer information telephone lines.
"The CBD is expected to attract up to 900,000 visitors each day during the Games, which will lead to record visitation at the City Host kiosks and visitor information centres," Mr Thirlwell said.
"We also expect record numbers of calls on our telephone lines."
"We will be looking in particular for people with a knowledge of Sydney, good interpersonal skills and preferably some experience in providing quality customer service," Mr Thirlwell said.
Applications close on April 28 and information can be obtained from Tourism New South Wales on 9931 1111. Application forms are also available on the Internet: www.tourism.nsw.gov.au.
