Specialist tour operator Traveleyes looks to attract even more sighted travellers to join their multi-sensory trips as they change the way people see the world.
Traveleyes is the world's first commercial tour operator offering independent travel to people who are blind or partially sighted. With a fully accessible website and audio brochure, blind travellers enjoy the same level of choice and ease of booking as sighted travellers, as well as access to incredible destinations.
One of the really special qualities of these trips is that sighted travellers help guide and describe sights to their blind companions who they're paired with each day, and in return, blind travellers guide sighted travellers in an exploration of their other senses.
Sighted traveller Juliet found the new experience quite incredible.
”I found the whole experience a joy. Meeting likeminded travellers, keen to be immersed in new cultures and experiences, was both exciting and rewarding. Spending each day with a different person in the group was so much fun. Such variety, combined with a well-considered and comprehensive itinerary, has resulted in spending many an hour thinking about the individual days and all my new friends, who I am now sorely missing”.
And blind traveller Mark had this to say about skiing in La Plagne:
“The feel of the breeze on my face as my speed picked up, the crunching and swooshing of the skis on the snow, the smell of the Deep Heat and the taste of the free cake afterwards… who needs their sight when the other senses are being overloaded like this?”
With new trips in 2016 including Costa Rica, Barcelona, Poland and Savannah & Charlston, the choices are no different to any mainstream holiday provider, but the trips themselves are quite life changing. Part of their ambition for the coming year is to attract more sighted travellers who want a new travel experience or a more fulfilling way of travelling solo.
Traveleyes was set up by Amar Latif, who had lost 95% of his sight by the age of 18. In the coming year he has big plans.
“We're growing fast due to amazing demand and we want more sighted travellers to really open their eyes, excuse the pun!! I'm the blind guy who wants to show you the world – it's incredible what happens when people stop and take in everything around them – we want more people to experience that” says Amar.
Each tour group, on average, is made up of 16 people; half the group is blind, and the other half sighted. The groups provide a safe, comfortable and fun way for both blind and sighted people to travel solo, along with couples and friends who want to travel in a social environment. By helping make the world accessible to blind travellers, sighted travellers also receive a discount on their tours of up to 50%.
Commenting on Traveleyes' continued growth and popularity among sighted and blind travellers worldwide, Amar says:
“Not only do we receive great feedback from our blind travellers, but sighted people love our trips too. We've introduced new holidays for 2016 and we'll continue to add more destinations. We're also growing our fantastic team. We're really striving to be a household name”.
