Tokyo's multi-award winning Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport) is already known as one of the world's best and cleanest airports**, further measures have been announced to ensure the safety and comfort of guests as the airport prepares to welcome international travellers. As international travel resumes many are curious to know how airport travel will look and feel. Find out how Haneda has pulled out all stops to give travellers piece of mind.
Located only 20 minutes' drive from the city centre, Haneda Airport is one of Tokyo's two international airports and one of the largest airports in Japan. It plays an important role being a hub airport for both domestic and international flights in Tokyo. As the Corona virus pandemic has continued to challenge the world, Japan Airport Terminal Company, the managing authority of this award-winning airport, has focused on facilities and services that are convenient, comfortable, and functional, as well as prioritizing safety for those who use the airport. The extensive measures to protect travellers include the implementation of plastic screens in shops, restaurants and other areas, vastly increased signage and indicators to assist with social distancing, saliva PCR testing for arrivals as well as all the general practices and protocols for employees such as mask wearing, hand-washing and the constant routine of disinfecting surfaces.
Innovation & Automation:
Haneda has been leading the way in terms of efficiency, innovation and safety, keeping up with people's ever-growing expectations. Japan Airport Terminal Company established Haneda Robotics back in 2016 with the aim of developing and introducing new robot technology not only as a novelty but as actual, useful services within the airport. In July 2020 the airport successfully launched a new mobility assistance service powered by cutting-edge technology. The WHILL Autonomous Mobility Service looks like a regular wheelchair, but it is completely automatic and moves without the need for any airport staff, transporting people to various destinations within the airport. This is the world's first implementation of an autopilot personal mobility service in an airport.
Haneda Robotics Lab is working on a number of other useful services, some of which are already available inside the airport, including information robots, cleaning robots, and a face mask with incorporated translation features. Haneda Airport is continually working on providing all travellers and visitors with enhanced services making their time at the airport more comfortable.
Safe, clean and kind, Tokyo is waiting for the return of international travellers.
