Come and join Amberley Castle in a wee dram of a toast to Robert Burns, Scotland's favourite son. The black tie celebration includes a traditional four-course Burns supper, champagne, fine wines, and whiskey, all accompanied by poetry and music from Martin Treacher, one of Scotland's leading musical entertainers. This sumptuous evening will take place on Sunday 22 January, and costs only 95 per person, with an exclusive overnight rate of 110 per room available to guests attending the event.
Burns immortalised the Scottish national dish in his colourful poem 'Address to a Haggis', so it is fitting that haggis should now play a central role. According to the time-honoured Burns Night tradition, Amberley Castle's head chef, James Peyton, will proudly carry the haggis aloft into the Queens Room accompanied by a fanfare of bagpipes. Whilst guests savour the delicious Scottish-themed courses, other ceremonial highlights that will be enjoyed include the cutting of the haggis, the 'Toast to the Lasses' and the 'Lasses' response'.
After the meal the flavour of Scottish culture will be continued into the night, as Master of Ceremonies, Martin Treacher, plays traditional music on Amberley's grand piano, as well as accordion and bagpipes, accompanied by soprano Sarah-Jane Morris. Martin specialises in Burns Night celebrations and has even recorded his own CD, 'Burn It Up!' aimed at Scottish cultural celebrations and it features contemporary dance arrangements to many traditional Burns' songs.
900 year-old Amberley Castle is a multiple award-winning country castle hotel which nestles in the picturesque South Downs near Arundel in Sussex. The exclusive overnight Burns Night tariff can be upgraded to a four-poster room or a suite, allowing guests to enjoy this cultural celebration the ultimate luxury.
