Tinker Flats: Indy's New Food and Beverage Innovation Hub

Visit Indy

Indianapolis, IN- Indianapolis will be home to a new food and beverage innovation hub opening in early 2015 in the 16th Street Tinker Flats building. Slane Capital, an Indy-based start-up studio, will redevelop the empty three-story building to create an incubator for artisan food businesses. It will be an open space that provides opportunity for creation and collaboration of better food systems, access to local food and a culture that celebrates bringing farm-to-table ideas to urban living.

The project carries a price tag between $3 million and $3.5 million, with the city of Indianapolis providing $1 million in grant money.

Renovations will include space for light manufacturing of various craft food and beverages, commercial kitchens, a food research and development lab, and meeting space. Tinker Flats will house businesses such as a craft distillery, an artisan ice cream producer and a chocolatier.

The building will be open for visitors to come in and enjoy the food options as well as participate in consumer-focused events such as beer and bourbon making classes or working alongside a chocolatier.
