Tiger Airways Australia today announces a number of initiatives planned in conjunction with tourism and airport partners to cater for local demand and help boost visitor numbers through Mackay Airport ahead of the upcoming North Queensland off-peak tourism season.

Due to local customer requests, Tiger has revised its times and days of flying between Mackay and Sydney from early February 2013 to include a new Wednesday service particularly aimed at meeting demand from the resources sector. The airline is also working with local transfer operator Whitsundays 2 Everywhere to stimulate leisure travel to the region by promoting seamless, affordable and convenient transfer solutions between Mackay Airport and Airlie Beach for Tiger travelers, in line with the airline's schedule.

"The re-timed and new weekly services between Mackay and Sydney commencing from early February and promotion of regular transfer solutions to/from Airlie Beach are just two examples of responding to the needs of our customers so we can continue to stimulate and grow the air travel market with our consistently great value airfares," said Tiger Airways Australia Commercial Director, Carly Brear.

"To celebrate our new Wednesday services between Sydney and Mackay commencing early February, we've put over 300 seats on sale today from just $29.95* for travel Wednesdays on the Sydney - Mackay route through February and March 2013," she said.

Mackay Airport welcomes the news from Tiger Airways that they will operate an adjusted flight schedule between Sydney and Mackay from 1 February after introducing the service in December. General Manager, Rob Porter, said the Tuesday to Friday and Sunday link with Sydney has benefits for all the airport's passengers.

"The new Wednesday flight will be well received by those in the resources sector as it provides another convenient option for travel to and from work and we thank Tiger for responding to their needs," Mr Porter said.

"Visitors to Mackay and the Whitsundays will now have a mid-week opportunity to access this spectacular tourism destination, supported by smooth transit connections through to Airlie Beach. Meanwhile the Mackay locals can continue to take advantage of all Tiger's flights to Sydney and Melbourne, whether they're travelling for business or pleasure."

Mr Porter said Mackay Airport is working closely with Airlie beach based Whitsunday 2 Everywhere shuttles and Greyhound Australia Buses in the provision of ground transport services from Mackay Airport to the Whitsundays for leisure visitors as well as to Coppabella and Nebo for business passengers and regional residents.  "We intend for these increased ground transport services to provide more options for visitors to get from Mackay Airport to their final destinations within the region whether they are travelling for work or holidays."
