Thornybush

Small World Marketing has been appointed to represent Thornybush in the UK and European market, further enriching its portfolio of prestigious properties in Africa with this exceptional addition.

Thornybush is one of the original nature reserves in the Greater Kruger National Park, with the first lodge, Thornybush Game Lodge, opening its doors over 60 years ago, making it one of the first lodges in South Africa. Conversely, Thornybush has also recently launched one of the most exciting new properties on the safari circuit, the stunning Saseka Tented Camp, and a very bright new jewel in Thornybush's crown. Saseka joins Thornybush Game Lodge and Simbambilli in the Sabi Sand Private Nature Reserve. With this prestigious collection Thornybush is positioned at the forefront of the luxury safari industry in South Africa – offering the reassurance of heritage, mixed with cutting-edge style and no shortage of panache.

Thornybush's purpose is to create extraordinary safari experiences for guests whilst also enriching the lives of their staff and the well-being of their surrounding communities. The lodges offer unquestionable luxury, style and comfort, and each has a distinctive style: Thornybush Game Lodge is a sophisticated and comfortable bush experience, with a commanding setting, along a dry river bed; Saseka is jaw-

droppingly beautiful with its stunning contemporary style realised by world-renowned safari designers, Silvio Lech and Lesley Carstens; whilst Simbambili offers quiet, elegant luxury in the Sabi Sands.

The highly trained, highly engaging rangers, help guests discover and interpret the natural wonders in these great tracts of wilderness which offer exceptional and intimate game viewing. Conservation has always been centre stage for Thornybush including the first translocation of an entire elephant herd from Kruger, one of the first leopard introductions onto a private reserve, extensive studies of pangolins, the first lowveld reserve to treat rhino horn as a form of poaching and the first release of a black rhino onto a private nature reserve in the lowveld.

When Thornybush dropped its fences into the adjoining world-renowned Kruger National Park 5years ago, new herds of wildlife were allowed to roam freely across the 14,000-hectare reserve and the full potential of this private nature reserve was realised. Elephants have increased over ten-fold in the dry season, and the area is also renowned for wild dog, buffalo herds, leopard and hyena.

“This new partnership with Small World Marketing comes at an exciting time in Thornybush's story as we differentiate our collection and extend our welcome to guests finally able to expand their horizons again post-Covid.” commented J Burger, Thornybush's Head of Sales and Marketing.

Anita Powell, owner of SWM stated: “We are thrilled to be working with JB and the team to help promote these exquisite properties, in such an iconic destination. Thornybush is a unique brand with a long-standing pedigree yet boasting an ambitious vision and offering a contemporary edge and style. They complement our existing portfolio beautifully.”
