Sydney's newest rooftop bar Sky Terrace is kicking things up a notch for Sydney Festival. The summer hotspot, situated on the rooftop of The Star, will be offering live music, pop up bars, food stations and of course spectacular views of Sydney's harbor and skyline every day from 9 - 26 January.
A star-studded line-up of DJs and musicians will be providing the soundtrack to your evening while you kick back with a beer, wine or one of Sky Terrace's signature cocktails.
Here's who's on Sky Terrace this week:
Monday 13 January and Tuesday 14 January | Open from 5pm til late
Emily Barker, 6 - 9pm
Australian singer-songwriter Emily Barker will be taking up residence on Sky Terrace on Monday and Tuesday night, providing an acoustic soundtrack to ease you in to the start of your week. Barker blends classical, rock, country and folk influences to stunning effect with captivating and expressive vocals. With a slew of awards under her belt including a West Australian Music Songwriting Award and a BAFTA, Barker is true Aussie talent not to be missed, and brings extra warmth to hot summer evenings Sky Terrace.
Also featuring: The Cash Sisters, 9pm onwards. Two gals with two stacks of vinyl, giving you country and blues favourites.
Wednesday 15 January | Open from 5pm til late
Funki Porcini, 8 - 9pm
All the way from the UK, the master of downtempo beats and bedroom-eyed jazz DJ James Braddell, aka Funki Porcini, will be bringing his unique sounds to Sky Terrace on Wednesday night. Described as "downtempo, breakbeat and jazz with elements of hip hop and drum and bass,", Funki Porcini takes you deep into the night with laidback breaks and cinematic soundscapes.
Also featuring: DJ Jack Shit, 6 - 8pm. Long-standing presenter of FBi radio's Saturday afternoon show 'Jack Off' and DJ
about town, Jack Shit has a collection that spans all eras and genres of recorded music.
Thursday 16 January and Friday 17 January | Open from 5pm til late
Scanner, 6 - 8pm
Sonic artist and composer Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner has been traversing the experimental terrain between sound, space and image since 1991, connecting a bewilderingly diverse array of genres - collaborating with artists Bryan Ferry, Danger Mouse, Wayne MacGregor, Mike Kelley, Miroslaw Balka, Steve McQueen, Laurie Anderson and Hussein Chalayan, amongst others. For his performances on the Sky Terrace, this cutting-edge London-based artist reinvents the work of classical composers by adding contemporary electronics to the mix to produce something quite sublime.
Also featuring: Luen, Friday 17 January, 8 - 10pm. Luen Jacobs has established herself as one of Sydney's most important tastemakers, launching an influential mixtape series. Join Luen as she transports you to the sunset strip of Los Angeles circa 1993.
Saturday 18 January | Open from 3pm til late
DJ Jack Shit, 6 - 8pm
Kick back and start your Saturday night in style. Long-standing presenter of FBi radio's Saturday afternoon show 'Jack Off' and DJ about town, Jack Shit has a collection that spans all eras and genres of recorded music. Jack's taking it back to the simple things in life as he plays a special set dedicated to 'home'.
Also featuring: Andy Votel, 8 - 10pm. One of the world's most respected record collectors and DJ's, Andy Votel runs the hugely admired Finders Keepers Records, an amazing re-issue label that specialises in psychedelic/jazz/folk/funk/film soundtracks and un-discovered world beats. An Andy Votel DJ set is a serious journey that's likely to take you to musical worlds you had no idea even existed.
Sunday 19 January | Open from 2pm til late
Scanner, 6.30 - 8.30pm
