In the past 3 years the Mt Etna endurance race has seen runners participating and impressively completing the Ultra Trail race requiring commitment, preparation and experience.
The race is appealing to various levels of fitness with its endurance climb run of 64km (3,250m), moderate run of 24km (1,355m) and walk trail of 16km (850 m). With this selection of courses, there is room for all abilities, which creates an event that is inclusive for family and friends wanting to be active, socialise and enjoy the amazing welcoming after race party as well as a +holiday in the amazing Island of Sicily.
This is indeed a journey and an opportunity to experience a variety of landscapes ranging from the snowcap mountaintop to the lunar desert of barren lava. The race will start from the village of Linguaglossa in Piana Provenzana, the gateway to Etna's quieter and more picturesque northern slopes. The race will cover an extensive ground of Mount Etna Park, with spectacular views of the Peloritani, Nebrodi, and Madonie mountain ranges and the Valle del Bove.
Mt Etna is Italy's highest mountain south of the Alps and the largest active volcano in Europe. Since 1987 the volcano and its slops have been part of a national park with recognised UNESCO heritage. By contrast at the foot of the mountain there is a vast area of woodland with birch and larch trees, encompassing also 21 towns and an area famous for its lush vineyards producing DOC wines.
This event is set to take place on August 2nd and ready to welcome more international runners. Launching for the first time this year in the UK with the support of the event company SicilyinStyle, the aim is to reach UK trail lovers and keen runners with an interest to discover new route challenges and explore the amazing island of Sicily's rich history, art, nature, and cuisine.
The event is locally organised by the very experienced Etnatrail team with the international support of SicilyinStyle for entries and enquiries. Entry to the 2014 event is open until capacity is reached; cost per person is £60 for the 64km, £30 for the 24km and £20 for the 16km.
