The very popular Victoria at Holkham has reopened following four months of total refurbishment and now its fresh new feel is already winning over visitors once again and resuming its place as a top destination on the North Norfolk coast.
The 10 bedrooms all have wonderfully comfortable new beds and high quality bathrooms have been installed with drench showers. Every bathroom is completed with an attractive new range of toiletries from 'Noble Isle' including shower gel, body lotion, soap and shampoo.
Each bedroom has a different colour theme and careful attention to design ensures a blend of comfort and classic elegance. The bedrooms are all named after the shoot drives on the Holkham Estate. The rooms have the perfect mix of old and new so that flat screen TVs with built in DVD players sit alongside antique features making both interesting and stylish rooms. There is a ground floor bedroom with disabled access and this features a wet room for ease of use.
The hotel has a small number of dog-friendly rooms for guests wishing to enjoy long walks with their canine companions either in Holkham Park or along the award-winning Holkham Beach.
The bright and airy dining area will serve delicious, locally sourced food with many of the ingredients coming from the Holkham Estate and its tenant farmers. With its proximity to the coast, the menu will also offer visitors a good choice of fresh fish including seasonal favourites such as mussels and crab which are all caught locally. The menu will have the very best examples of British cookery which have been inspired by names such as Elizabeth David, Simon Hopkinson and Fergus Henderson.
In the summer months al-fresco dining will be on offer in the courtyard and on the terrace providing the perfect place to visit for lunch or supper on long summer days.
This classic English Inn, standing at the gateway to Holkham and the National Nature Reserve, is owned by the Coke family and managed by the Holkham Estate. Holkham has been a leading agricultural estate since the 1800s when Thomas William Coke bought the site and the young Queen Victoria elevated him to the peerage in recognition of his contribution to farming in 1837. When the inn opened its doors the following year the name must have been inevitable and it has remained to this day.
