"Masters in Painting" exhibition showcases exquisite works of
renowned mainland Chinese and Macao artists
(Macao, Aug. 28, 2013) - A truly unique selection of 162 Chinese paintings and oil paintings from more than 100 reputed artists in mainland China and Macao is coming to The Venetian® Macao's Cotai Expo Sept. 7-26, 2013. "Masters in Painting — LOVE OF TWO PLACES An Exhibition of Exquisite Chinese Ink and Oil Paintings" is a one-of-a-kind exhibition assembling a group of original paintings considered to be of extremely high technical standards and quality in Chinese contemporary art, providing an excellent platform for cultural exchange. Sponsored by the Chinese Painting Institute and the China Oil Painting Society, organised by The Venetian Macao and Beijing Hong Bao Bo Yi Culture Development Company Limited, and co-organised by the Macau Artist Society, the exhibition is open to the general public to enjoy, free of admission.
Following the success of the "Masters in Ink" exhibition at The Venetian Macao last August, this year's "Masters in Painting" exhibition brings together 120 elegant, refined works in a variety of styles, from an exclusive list of celebrated Chinese artists of the present day, including 30 Chinese painting masters like Liu Dawei, Guo Yicong, Zhang Daoxing and Du Ziling, and 31 Chinese oil painting masters like Jin Shangyi, Xu Jiang and Quan Shanshi. "Masters in Painting" marks the first-ever cooperation between the Chinese Painting Institute and the China Oil Painting Society, breaking the boundaries between different genres of paintings, reflecting the integration of eastern and western works of art and also giving visitors a comprehensive picture of contemporary Chinese painting and oil painting.
In addition, the "Masters in Painting" exhibition features the work of 42 eminent Macao artists, including Lai Ieng, James Chu, Carlos Marreiros and Lio Man Cheong. Some of mainland China and Macao's distinguished modern artists are connected with each other through the exhibition, as they join hands to showcase to Macao locals and visitors their assorted styles of painting, thus further promoting cultural exchange and collaboration.
Brief biographies of select painters
Liu Dawei, Vice President of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, President of the China Artists Association and Honorary President of the Chinese Painting Institute, has been recognised for his outstanding achievements in Chinese portrait painting. His ongoing dedication to drawing, watercolour, oil painting and ink painting techniques, as well as his art creations, are highly acclaimed by his fellow artists in China. Liu's works on display in "Masters in Painting" are "Yi People Going to Market" and "Vietnamese Fisherwoman."
President of the Chinese Painting Institute Guo Yicong is highly specialized in bird-and-flower paintings. His works are known for being glamorously rich in colours and layers. The master has received an outstanding art award from the Chinese Ministry of Culture and his works can be found in various galleries and museums in the United States and Canada. Two of Guo's paintings to be displayed in the upcoming exhibition are "Flowers and Early Spring" and "Lotus Land."
Jin Shangyi, Honorary President of the China Artists Association and Deputy Director of the Arts Council, China Oil Painting Society, is considered the pioneer of the neoclassical school of Chinese oil painting. He merged the essence of European classical oil painting and the noble spirit it embodies with Chinese folk art traditions, stimulating the growth of Chinese oil painting. Jin's "Girl in White" can be found in the September exhibition at The Venetian Macao.
Xu Jiang, Vice President of the China Artists Association and President of the China Oil Painting Society, is a master of paintings where figurative and abstract elements co-exist. He has succeeded in breaking the traditional rules of oil painting, and the themes of his works are mostly urban and natural landscapes. Xu will bring with him "Bright Sky" and "Sunflower Rain" to the "Masters in Painting" exhibition.
Macao contemporary watercolour master Lai Ieng is the President of the Macau Artist Society. He began studying watercolour painting in the 1970s and was influenced by the late renowned painter Tam Chi Sang, becoming a student of China's prominent watercolour master Wang Zhaomin in the early 1980s. Lai is specialised in making use of the transparent quality of watercolours to depict the beauty of Macao's cultural heritage. His "Pleasant Moment at Lou Lim Iok Garden" will be seen in the September exhibition.
