The Caterer Announces Hoteliers' Hotels Top 100 2017
London, 11 July 2017 – Leading figures from the UK hotel industry have voted, for a second year, in The Caterer's 2017 Hoteliers' Hotels Top 100 list, in association with Sky, which reveals the industry's favourite hotels across Great Britain.
This year, hoteliers named Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, established by celebrated chef Raymond Blanc, as the best British hotel.
The Caterer, the leading publication in the hospitality and catering industry, asked the UK's top hoteliers to vote for their overall top three hotels to form the 2017 Hoteliers' Hotels Top 100 list. Participants also nominated their top three properties by category; 'Spa Hotel of the Year', Countryside Hotel of the Year', 'Food Hotel of the Year, 'City Centre Hotel of the Year', 'Boutique Hotel of the Year' and 'Family-Friendly Hotel of the Year'.
The 2017 Hoteliers' Hotels Top 100 was announced last night as a glittering award's ceremony held at one of the UK's hottest new hotels, the Ned in the City of London, which opened in May after voting for the list closed.
Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, in Great Milton, Oxfordshire, was named as the hoteliers' number one overall hotel, beating last year's winner Chewton Glen, Hampshire, to the top spot. A country house hotel and renowned foodie destination, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons has over 33 years been transformed by Raymond Blanc from a restaurant with rooms to a sprawling 32-bedroom hotel with cookery school, a two Michelin star restaurant and one of the UK's most impressive kitchen gardens. Chewton Glen fell to second place and Lime Wood, Hampshire, secured third place on the overall 2017 Hoteliers' Hotels Top 100 list.
Le Manoir was also awarded 'Food Hotel of the Year' and was featured in the top three for 'Countryside Hotel of the Year'.
Foxhill Manor, Worcestershire, maintained its title of 'Boutique Hotel of the Year', with Calcot Manor, Tetbury, also retaining the top place for 'Family-Friendly Hotel of the Year'. Claridge's, London, took 'City Centre Hotel of the Year' from The Goring, London, which dropped down to second place.
Despite losing the overall favourite title, Chewton Glen was voted by peers for a consecutive year as 'Spa Hotel of the Year' and 'Countryside Hotel of the Year', as well as being featured in 'Family-Friendly Hotel of the Year'.
New entries for 2017 included the Bingham, London, which was placed in the top three for 'Boutique Hotel of the Year', alongside Soho Farmhouse, Great Tew, Oxfordshire; Pig at Combe, Gittisham, Devon; Covent Garden hotel, London, the Torridon, by Achnasheen, Wester Ross; the Stafford London; Painswick, Painswick, Gloucestershire; Corinthia London; Principal Manchester; Bovey Castle, Dartmoor, Devon; St Martin's Lane, London; the Oakley Court, Windsor; and the Idle Rocks, St Mawes, Cornwall.
Amanda Afiya, Editor at The Caterer, said, “We were delighted by the response to launch of the list last year and are excited by the engagement that this year's list will create both in the industry and with guests. Hoteliers are the best judges of the UK hotel industry and the Hoteliers' Hotel Top 100 showcases a wide breadth of properties that celebrates our Great British hotels.”
Bronwyn de Cholewa, director – hotels, Sky, added: “Sky is delighted to once again support the Hoteliers' Hotels Top 100. We are committed to providing the best TV entertainment to help the UK's best and finest hotels enhance the guest experience, and so we're proud to be associated with these awards, which recognise the exceptional level of details that goes into ensuring every guest has a perfect stay.”
The 2017 Hoteliers' Hotel Top 100 list was launched on 10 July at The Ned, London. The hoteliers selected to vote were based on former Hoteliers of the Year, Catey and Hotel Catey award winners, as well as members of the Master Innholders and Pride of Britain. The results were independently ratified by a panel of experts including Fiona Duncan, hotel critic of the Telegraph and Giovanna Grossi, hotel consultant and AA advisor; and senior editors from The Caterer.
