TTC (The Travel Corporation)

Leading global travel company mobilises customers, community leaders, National Tourism Organisations, National Sports Associations and Business Partners in Singapore to cycle for fund

On April 29 2017 (Saturday) The Travel Corporation (TTC) Asia organised “TTCYCLE 2017”, an inaugural outdoor cycling event to help raise funds for Singapore's Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre (Limbang). The Guest-of-Honour for TTCYcle 2017 was Singapore's Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong. TTC had reached out to customers, community leaders, business partners, National Tourism Organisations and National Sports Associations who nominated employees to join staff from TTC's family of brands (Contiki, Insight Vacations, Trafalgar, Uniworld, Red Carnation Hotels and Thompsons Gateway) to cycle for fund.

With TTCYCLE 2017, TTC's CSR initiative seeks to directly impact and provide financial assistance to the poor and needy elderly living in Singapore through its appointed charity Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre (Limbang). Funds were raised through the $100 registration fee per participant and additionally by private donations from friends and supportive partners.

The flag off for TTC Cycle took place along East Coast Parkway after Mr Robin Yap, President, The Travel Corporation Asia and Mr Lawrence Wong jointly presented a cheque of $10,000 raised for the event to Mr Arthur Ling, Director, Fei Yue Community Services.

Over 80 participants cycled 20 km along a scenic route enjoying Singapore's beautiful cityscape views along Marina Bay, passing by iconic tourist attractions and landmarks such as the Marina Barrage,  Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands.

Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre (Limbang) is a new centre started by Fei Yue Community Services for seniors living in Choa Chu Kang, and provides the elderly residents living in the neighbourhood with a recreation area where they can socialize and keep active.

As a Diamond Sponsor of UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism For Development 2017, TTC is committed to mobilizing global awareness and action around the value of tourism to create positive change.

Recognising the fundamental value of the global tourism sector as a lever for development of nations economically, socially, culturally and environmentally, the United Nations 70th General Assembly designated 2017 as the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, framed within the context of the universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The International Year aims to support changes in policies, business practices, and consumer behaviour towards a more sustainable tourism sector that contributes to SDGs.

For 2017, the global UN system, and the global community at large will promote tourism's role in the following five key areas:

(1)        Inclusive and sustainable economic growth

(2)        Social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction

(3)        Resource efficiency, environmental protection and climate change

(4)        Cultural values, diversity and heritage

(5)        Mutual understanding, peace and security.
