MASI Amarone 1990 5-star Vintage 20 May 2013
THE STEAK HOUSE winebar + grill presents a 'MASI 5-STAR VINTAGE' Wine Dinner on June 4, 2013

InterContinental Hong Kong

The 1-Michelin star STEAK HOUSE winebar + grill is pleased to showcase a “Masi 5-Star Vintage” Wine Dinner on Tuesday, June 4th, showcasing seven vintages (including four 5-star vintages)  of the celebrated Venetian wine, paired with a special 4-course menu created by STEAK HOUSE Chef Calvin Choi. (HK$1,688 + 10% service per person).

Masi is acclaimed for its production and distribution of high-class wines, rooted in the values of the Venetian territory. It uses principally native grapes and traditional production methods, alongside constant technological updates. Masi has helped to raise the image of Venetian wines to the highest level on an international basis.

At the wine dinner, guests will have the opportunity to taste Masi’s “Five Star Vintages”, along with the current vintages.

The “Five Star Vintage” classification is determined by the Masi Technical Group. As per  Dr. Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi,  “For a Masi wine to become a five star vintage, everything has to be perfect, from the growing and seasons to the evolution of the grapes -- all the conditions have to be exactly right. Masi has only had 7 vintages considered for five star vintage classifcation in 67 years. These were in 1964, 1983, 1988, 1990, 1995, 1997 and 2006.  (The rating of a five star vintage can be founded on each wine label.)

At the June 4th dinner, guests will taste 4 wines which are considered Five Star Vintage.

They will then compare the aged wines with current vintages, thus discovering the ageing potential of Amarone and the beautiful changes in bottle ageing.

The historical and aged wines still retain great acidity and fabulous fruit, both fresh and dried.  The tannins prove to still be quite robust; and the wines have a nice long finish.

Showcased wines will include:

·         Masianco Pinot Grigio Verduzzo                               2011

·         Campofiorin Rosso del Veronese IGT                         2009

·         Serego Allighieri Vaio Armaron Amarone Cls              1997  (Five Star Vintage)

·         Costasera Amarone Classico DOC                            2008

·         Costasera Amarone Classico DOC                            1997 (Five Star Vintage)

·         Costasera Amarone Classico DOC                            1990 (Five Star Vintage)

·         Campolongo Di Torbe                                               1995 (Five Star Vintage)

The menu pairing includes Warm Boston Lobster & Scallop with Lobster Jus, Duck Foie Gras Terrine with Poached Pear and Truffle Brioche and US Beef Tenderloin with Green Asparagus and Ginger Carrot Puree. The dessert is Saint Florentin and Comte with Cherry Sauce.

About MASI

Vajo dei Masi (“Masi little valley”) was the first vineyard acquired in Valpolicella in 1772.

It is owned by the Boscaini family, who have been wine-growers for more than two centuries.

Masi was established in Valpolicella, known as the land of Amarone. The company has expanded in the best winemaking areas around Venice and now exports its experience outside the Venetian area.

The Boscaini family is inexorably linked to its Venetian roots. The family is dedicated and hardworking, always trying new approaches, exploring new ways and perfecting their methods.

Masi has a technical team of agronomists, oenologists and marketing experts who help to maintain constant innovation, develop local grapes/techniques patrimony and keep Masi at the forefront of quality wine production and promotion.

The Masi vineyards are in the best wine regions of the Venetian area (Veneto, Friuli and recently also in Trentino in partnership with the Counts Bossi Fedrigotti). Masia has recently expanded in Argentina, in Tuscany (in collaboration with the counts Serego Alighieri) and in Trentino (in collaboration with the counts Bossi Fedrigotti). All the vineyards are wholly-managed by Masi technicians. Most are wholly-owned by Masi; some operate in partnership with Masi; and some  on a long term contract basis.

Masi’s approach to viticulture brings together the experience of tradition and expertise in modern methods, with the goal of obtaining quality, personality and character from each vineyard.
