Bangkok, 29 June 2017: The next chapter of The Siam, Bangkok's wellness series continues as the Opium Spa welcomes Thai masters trained in the art of Tok Sen and Foot Reflexology Massage for the resort's 'Thai July' month. These ancient therapies work to free the flow of vital energy in the body with remarkable results: the immune system is boosted; healing accelerated; the body refreshed and the mind cleared of stress.

The art of Thai Massage has been practiced for centuries and developed in Thailand combining acupressure and energy balancing techniques. By comparison, Thai Foot Reflexology has been influenced and enhanced through alternative techniques with elements originating in Chinese Tuina, Japanese Shiatsu and Indian Ayurveda yoga. Next month, visiting wellness artisan Dr Tanat Dolamphornpisut will be in residence at The Siam offering guests a unique 60-minute treatment to detox and purify the body.

The theory of Thai Foot Reflexology assumes the existence of ten major energy lines in the body, which run from the top of the head all the way to the soles of the feet. Through gentle manipulation of pressure points present in the feet, hands and ears, the body and mind are stimulated to encourage the flow of Sen energy channels. Referred to as 'the healing touch', Thai reflexology provides an enjoyable and rejuvenating experience that restores the body's own natural balance promoting complete harmonisation of the body and mind.

Also in July, the Opium Spa introduces Tok Sen Massage to its holistic offering with treatments carried out by Thai masters Sakchai Kaewratanapatama and Tanakit Thitiwong. This ancient healing procedure enhances the therapeutic effects of Thai massage by tapping the whole body using a special hammer and wand.

Originally prescribed by wives to their husbands after a hard day's work in the fields, the wives would gently tap along their husband's body with wooden sticks to ease aching pains. The Tok Sen is made of wood from a tamarind tree that has been struck and charged by lightning, and always blessed in the monastery. This is believed to help remove the negative energy that is trapped within the body. A painless technique, the tapping of the hammer creates a resonance that passes through the muscles, penetrating deep into the tissue to dislodge any stubborn tension and relax the body into a sense of wellbeing.

The Siam's tranquil setting in the Dusit quarter on the banks of the Chao Phraya River makes it the perfect location for a journey of self discovery and personal development. The hotel's Opium Spa offers a further haven with an exclusive, private ambience, immersing guests in a 360-degree regenerating experience which endeavours to re-establish optimal health, both mentally and physically. The programmes at the resort's Opium Spa & Wellbeing, ranging from 60 minute treatments to four-day retreats, are carefully tailored to every guest's needs, and have at their core the healing and restorative powers of Ayurveda, Reiki and Yoga.
