The Shortlisted Candidates For The 2013 'Meurice Prize For Contemporary Art' Have Been Announced

Dorchester Collection's Le Meurice is delighted to announce its shortlisted candidates for the 2013/2014 Meurice Prize for contemporary art, now in its sixth year.  

 

The 'Meurice Prize for contemporary art' highlights the hotel's ongoing commitment to promoting and nurturing young artists, in order to support them on an ever-competitive international stage. The prize offers the winner a €20,000 endowment and embraces all types of artistic mediums; from painting and sculpture to photography and video, all of which are included amongst the selected shortlist. The six finalists are:  

 

1)    Bertille Bak - Galerie Xippas

'Exercice cynégétique familial', a gobal installation project to be exhibited in Geneva, Bielefeld,

Ljubljana and Brussels

 

2)    Neil Beloufa - Galerie Balice & Hertling

'Les arabes et les services', a gobal installation project to be exhibited in New York

 

3)    Jonathan Binet - Galerie Gaudel de Stampa

'Multiplication du tableau / Le plus loin possible', a painting project to be exhibited in London,

Cologne and Los Angeles

 

4)    Chloé Maillet & Louise Hervé - Galerie Marcelle Alix

'Un passage d'eau', a film project to be exhibited in Mechelen and Vancouver

  

5)    Elsa Sahal - Galerie Claudine Papillon

'OEuvres extérieures à caractère monumental : Fontaine', a sculpture project to be exhibited in

New-York

 

6)    Ulla Von Brandenburg - Galerie Art: Concept

'Strasse', a gobal installation project to be exhibited in Hanover

 

This year's jury is comprised of prestigious members of the Parisian art scene including Jean Charles de Castelbajac, designer and ambassador of the award; Montse Aguer, director of the Centre for Dalinian Studies;  Colette Barbier, director of Fondation d'Entreprise Ricard; Nicolas Bourriaud, director of l'École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris; Philippe Dagen, writer and professor at Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne; Jennifer Flay, FIAC director; Marta Gili, director of Jeu de Paume; Jean de Loisy, president of the Palais de Tokyo; Henri Loyrette, Conseiller d'Etat; Maryvonne Pinault, collector; Alexandre Singh, artist and winner 2012/2013; and Franka Holtmann, general manager of Hotel Le Meurice.

 

The jury will select the winner (one artist and one gallery) from the six shortlisted finalists in a grand final which will take place at Hotel Le Meurice on 7 October 2013. The exhibition of the six finalists will be open to the public from 8 - 27 October 2013, finishing on the final day of FIAC, the International Contemporary Art Fair.
