The Sarojin, Thailand's luxurious 56-roomed boutique residence, is helping its guests discover a truly authentic experience as it celebrates the country's traditional Vegetarian and Loy Krathong festivals. From delicious culinary delights and enchanting local traditions, guests will find this is the perfect place to enjoy their very own, 'just for two' Thai festival celebration.
Vegetarian Festival – A Celebration of Good Health (20th - 28th October 2017)
Spanning over nine days, the Vegetarian Festival celebrates the Chinese community's belief that good health and peace of mind can be obtained through a meat-free healthy diet. It is widely believed the festival stems from the story of a travelling Chinese Opera Group, who fell ill while performing on the island and as a result decided to stick to a strict Vegetarian diet, while praying to the Nine Emperor Gods to cleanse their bodies and minds. To celebrate the miraculous recovery made by the group, a celebration was held to honour and thank the gods.
In celebration of the festival, The Sarojin is offering two dedicated menus, focusing on fine Thai and Western vegetarian cuisine. The sumptuous Thai feast includes green papaya salad, massaman bean curd curry, aromatic green mushroom and vegetable curry and fried sweetcorn cake. Diners sampling the Western menu, can delight in delicious dishes, such as roasted pumpkin soup with black truffle oil, green pea and mint risotto, and green asparagus soup and milk foam.
Loy Krathong – A mesmerising night of illuminating lights (2nd – 4th November 2017)
Perhaps one of the most magical of Thai festivals, Loy Krathong takes place on the 12th full moon of the year. As the full moon illuminates the sky, thousands gather to send beautiful lotus-shaped vessels, each decorated with incense and candles, across lakes, rivers and canals, paying their respects to the goddess of water. The shimmering lights across the waters don't just create an enchanting sight that will never been forgotten, they also represent the people's gratitude for the abundant supply of water, remorse for polluting the waters and, as believed by some, a way of letting go of past grudges or ill-feelings. Mirroring the flickering beauty of the waters, lanterns are released into the sky creating a truly enchanting sight.
The Sarojin's special beachfront Loy Krathong dinner provides a truly unique and personal experience for guests. Having been spoilt for choice with a range of culinary delights from across the country, including curry dishes of the North and grilled meats and fish of the South, diners are given their own sky lantern and flower basket to release into the sky and across the water. Guests even get the chance to create their own unique Krathong in The Sarojin's morning Krathong class*, which teaches the traditional craft.
Rooms at The Sarojin start from THB 6,400 (approx. GBP 142) per night from now - 20 October 2017, based on two people sharing, inclusive of a sumptuous à la carte breakfast with sparkling wine available until 6pm! and all taxes.
