The Roxburghe Invites Guests to Taste the Best of the Borders

Roxburghe Hotel and Golf

The Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course has been awarded VisitScotland's Taste Our Best accreditation in recognition of its support for local food suppliers.

A joint initiative launched in September between VisitScotland and the Scottish Government, the Taste Our Best initiative is designed to recognise businesses including hotels, restaurants and cafes that offer a quality food and drink experience whilst also including Scottish produce on their menus.

Criteria for receiving the accreditation includes keeping food miles to a minimum by sourcing food locally and highlighting at least 40 percent of the Scottish produce on the menu. The Roxburghe currently sources the majority of its food in Scotland, with much of it coming from neighbouring suppliers in The Borders and East Lothian, including Border Berries, J Gilmour & Co Butcher, Burnside Farm Foods, Carroll's Heritage Potatoes, Chain Bridge Honey Farm and Ross Dougal Fish Merchants.

Located on the Roxburghe Estate in Kelso, Chef Gordon Campbell and his team also utilise Estate food and produce whenever possible, taking advantage of the quality products available right on its doorstep.

General Manager of The Roxburghe, Duncan Evans, comments: “The Borders is packed with some of Scotland's finest food producers and by working with local suppliers we can keep our menu as fresh and seasonal as possible.  As a local Scottish country house hotel which welcomes many visitors to the region, the team ensures we reflect the best of the Borders in everything we serve to guests.”

Owned by The Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe, the Hotel is a 22-bedroom, country house gem, complete with log fires and fourposter beds. A lovely, comfortable retreat, it is a genuine labour of love by the Duke and Duchess, whose personal touches on everything from the furnishings to the wine list, make The Roxburghe so special.
