Spanning five acres and built on the site Charles II once occupied when he unwittingly founded the global HQ of horse racing, the new National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art Centre in Newmarket will comprise three attractions in one.
The first ever National Gallery of British Sporting Art will display the finest collection of sporting art with significant loans from the Tate and V&A among others.
The new National Horseracing Museum will stage internationally significant collections, interpreted with the latest audio-visual and interactive technologies telling the story of the 'sport of kings' which began in Newmarket 350 years ago with a specific focus on the science behind the evolution of the thoroughbred.
The final and most exciting part of the Heritage Centre will be a live horse experience in the new home for Retraining of Racehorses Charity.
Visitors will be able to meet former racehorses and watch demonstrations twice a day to showcase what these magnificent athletes go on to do after racing.
