The Philippine Department Of Tourism

Delegates from the Philippine Department of Tourism were available on stand AS900 at World Travel Market 2019, London, to showcase the best of the destination and to inform UK trade and media on why 'it's more fun in The Philippines'.

The Philippine Department of Tourism was joined at World Travel Market (WTM) 2019 by key tourism operators and stakeholders including the Movenpick Resort and Spa Boracay, Amorita Resorts, El Nido Resorts and Bohol Beach Club, Tours Philippines, Baron Travel Corporation, Intas Destinations Management, Annset Holidays and the Clark Development Corporation.

The Philippine Department of Tourism held several meetings with representatives from the UK travel industry to update them on the key areas of focus for the UK market in 2020. One of the key areas of focus at WTM was the Philippine Department of Tourism's sustainability projects. Through the efforts of the Philippine's Department of Tourism and its marketing and promotions arm, the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines, key initiatives are planned to go beyond the protection and preservation of natural assets to expand the benefits of tourism to communities that are directly and indirectly engaged in the industry. These communities will in turn become the stewards of their resources for future generations to gain from and enjoy. Efforts include educating communities in environmentally-sound management of their resources, sharing of best practices, as well as the promotion and marketing of sustainably-produced tourism products.

At the stand throughout WTM there were live performances and artisan weavers from the Philippines accompanied by cooking demos by Filipino chefs. In addition, the Philippines Happy Hour took place on the stand daily from 5 pm until 6 pm where visitors were able to try Filipino dishes and sample cocktails using Filipino Don Papa Rum.

The Philippines is anticipating tourism from the UK to further thrive in 2020 as it ramps up its marketing efforts to promote the country as a quality tourist destination with its participation in various global travel fairs and expositions, including this year's WTM in London. This is in line with the Department of Tourism's mission to boost international visitors in the country.
