All world cup matches to be shown in the conservatory with burgers, caipirinhas and beer specials
With summer having finally arrived, Londoners will be clambering to find hidden boltholes where meals can be enjoyed al fresco. The Montague on the Gardens, located in the historic area of Bloomsbury has now opened its Garden Grill offering a menu of sizzling specialities from the BBQ.
Additionally, they will be showing all World Cup fixtures in the conservatory with a World Cup specials menu combining burgers, Caipirinha's and beers from a variety of nations involved in the tournament.
From the BBQ, guests can enjoy the Montague beef burger, Springbok burger with apricot chutney, bratwurst with sauerkraut and Dijon mustard, free-range chicken burger with avocado and tomato relish, a smokie Joe burger with BBQ sauce, bacon and swish cheese or the Portabella mushroom, grilled vegetables and haloumi cheese vegetarian option. All meals are served with chunky chips and a side salad and priced at £13.50.
There are selection of summer coolers on offer including an Irish Monkey Shake, which is a dizzy combination on banana liqueur, vanilla ice cream, Jameson Irish Whisky and baileys. A treat imported from Southern USA is the Bourbon Ball, which combines chocolate, walnuts and Makers Mark bourbon. Classic coolers include Pimms No 1, Strawberry's and shortbread with smooth strawberry ice-cream, iced tea and homemade lemonade.
The barbecue area is located on a wooden deck at the rear of the hotel in a peaceful and secluded area overlooking the sculptures in the gardens of the Bedford Estate.
Throughout the World Cup the Montague will be serving a selection of £20 world Cup specials, which include the following combinations:
Burger with two beers
Burger with Caipirinha
Basket of five beers from different nations including England, Italy, Belgium and Mexico
Three Brazilian Caipirinhas
Recipe for The Montague on the Garden's Smokey Joe BBQ sauce from The Montague's Executive Chef Martin Halls:
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 chopped onion
3 cloves of garlic chopped
500g tinned chopped tomatoes
100g brown sugar
4 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
1 chopped red chilli pepper
1 tablespoon of Worcester sauce
1 tablespoon of tomato ketchup
1 sprig of lemon thyme
salt and pepper for seasoning
Method:
Gently sweat off the onion and garlic in a frying pan until soft
Add the remainder of the ingredients and bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes.
Carefully place the ingredients in a blender and liquidise until smooth
Chill and serve with burgers in a brioche bun, garnished with sliced Swiss cheese, Smokey streaky bacon, beef tomatoes and baby gem lettuce
