In true Mardi Gras fashion, the 18th annual British Guild of Travel Writers Awards Dinner at the Savoy Hotel on November 2, 2014 will pull out all the stops to create not only one of the top networking events of World Travel Market but also one of the most festive travel industry events of the year.
Sponsored this year by the Louisiana Office of Tourism and Brand USA, it will attract travel industry professionals, leading editors and journalists of national and international newspapers and magazines, tourist boards, foreign ambassadors and BGTW members, all eager to discover who will win the Guild's top Tourism and Members awards.
Louisiana-style Creole- and Cajun-inspired cuisine will be featured under the guidance of a top New Orleans chef. Stage and table settings will have a Mardi Gras theme and guests at the black tie event also can expect some very special entertainment.
The highpoint of the evening will be the announcement of the winners of two types of awards. The Tourism Awards are voted on by Guild members in three geographical categories: the UK, Europe and the Wider World. And the Members Awards, selected by independent jurors, are for excellence in
writing, photography and, for the first time this year, blogging.
There also will be a charity raffle featuring impressive prizes offered by the travel industry. This year's selected charity is Tusk, a small, dynamic organization which, since its formation in 1990, has raised more than £25 million for wildlife conservation, community development and environmental
education programmes across Africa (an average of 80 per cent of funds raised reaches the field; the charity's patron is HRH the Duke of Cambridge).
Details of ticket prices and reservations may be obtained through the Guild's Secretariat: secretariat@bgtw.org. tel: 020 8144 8713. More information about the Guild can be found on its website: www.bgtw.org
Note: The 54-year-old British Guild of Travel Writers represents 260 professional travel writers, authors, photographers, broadcasters and bloggers. The BGTW's Yearbook is the bible of the travel writing industry and the BGTW's Travel Awards Dinner is an important part of the travel industry
events calendar.
