The judges for the award remarked that they were staggered by the quality of The Landing's four guest Residences, all of which were designed by Cheshire Architects, as well as the care and attention to detail shown across the property and the authenticity of the experiences offered to guests, which include wildlife-spotting expeditions on The Landing's vessel Iti Rangi, a tour of cultural heritage sites at the property, wine-tasting and a vineyard tour at the property's winery and guided kiwi-spotting walks at night.

Developed with the blessing of local iwi, The Landing is a 1000-acre property with a history as the site of where New Zealand's first bi-cultural community of European missionaries and Maori was established. It is the guardian of 48 registered archaeological sites. Since 2003, four Residences
have been built on the site, which are available as guest accommodation, along with a vineyard and winery producing award-winning wines.
