The Hotel Britomart marks its first birthday on October 1 and is welcoming guests to the hotel with exclusive celebratory room rates for stays until March.

The whirlwind year has seen The Hotel Britomart host thousands of guests, manage several lockdowns (and the opening and closing of the Australian travel bubble), and win international accolades.

The closure of the country’s borders hasn’t stopped The Hotel Britomart receiving global acclaim. Since its opening the hotel, which has 99 rooms and five highly crafed Landing Suites, has earned itself a coveted spot on Conde Nast Traveler magazine’s Hot List of the world’s best new hotels, one of only two Australasian properties to do so.

The Hotel Britomart is New Zealand’s first 5 Green Star hotel, certified by the NZ Green Building Council, and its efforts in the sustainability field were recognised in August when the hotel was named runner up in the Most Sustainable Hotel category of National Geographic Traveller magazine’s 2021 Hotel Awards.

“The great thing about these global accolades is that they mean The Hotel Britomart is going to be at the top of the list for international visitors when they’re able to travel here again,” Farley says.

The Hotel Britomart’s opening also marked the arrival of kingi, an all-day restaurant with a focus on local produce and sustainable seafood. During Alert Level Three, work will continue on creating a new glass roof for Tuawhiti Lane, which will mean diners at kingi can enjoy the intimate laneway in all weather.

Since The Hotel Britomart opened, things have changed dramatically in downtown waterfront Auckland, with the opening of the Commercial Bay shopping and eating complex just two blocks away, and the upgrade of Quay Street into a pedestrian-friendly waterfront boulevard.
