The Hills Are Alive and Well at the Hotel Gotthard This Summer and Autumn

The Gotthard Hotel

This Summer and Autumn the Hotel Gotthard has launched an incredible range of themed mountain treks and hikes run by the hotel's expert hiking guide. Exciting trails in Tannberg and Lechweg will lead visitors through legendary historical trails to stunning Austrian Waterfalls, along paths and tours to see mountain farms for gastronomic tasting tours.

The Lechweg – trail runs from the source to the waterfall:

A unique and wonderful nature experience shrouded in legendary tales – that's The Lechweg. The Lechweg trail runs from its source close to Lake Formarin right up to the Lech waterfall in Füssen in Allgäu.

  • Along the way on a total of 125 km of routes, is the largest ibex colony in Europe, and the amazing waterfall which dries every year only to spring up again each year like magic. Other highlights along the trail are the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Europe and the Bavarian Kings castles.
  • All the places along the Lechweg are accessible by car, taxi or shuttle services and hiker's luggage can be transported on request from Hotel Gotthard from one stage of the Lechweg to another. Depending on how physically fit a person is the average hiking distance that can be covered on the trail each day is six to eight stages. * The starting point of the trail can also be reached by car, train or bus.

Tannberg Themed Trail - Hiking on the traces of the Walsers

  • Along the so called Tannberg Themed Trail, the route focuses on the history of the three Walser boroughs of Warth, Schröcken and Lech. The boroughs were founded by the Alemannic Walser folk groups who immigrated to the region 700 years ago. Tannberg is the name of the former Walser judicial district which once comprised of Warth, Schröcken and Lech.
  • The Tannberg Themed Trail leads hikers through a charming mountain landscape with partially high alpine climbs and includes some of the most stunning scenes at over 57 venues of the old Walser legends.
  • These include 700 year old Walser houses, and many other things which illustrate to the hiker the culture of the Walsers piece by piece.
  • For those who prefer to learn about the history a little faster, there's a hiking guide book available called “On the trails of the Walsers in Tannberg” by Olaf Sailer. Illustrated in stories it offers lots of additional information about the 57 points of interest.

Gastronomic Farm trails

  • Bespoke tours to mountain farms for gastronomic tasting of local farmers goat's cheese and yoghurt, locally famed honey and fish. Gastronomic hiking tours can be arranged with The Gotthard hotel hiking tour guide.
  • The Gotthard will also organise bespoke mountain lunch parties to meet hiking visitors on the trails close to Lech.*
