March 2020 (London) – From Monday 26 April to Friday 21 May 2021, five-star hotel,
The Hari, is delighted to welcome two early-career artists for a one-month residency at the hotel, in collaboration with ArtULTRA, a platform dedicated to supporting early-career artists.
Following its inception during the first lockdown in 2020, when ArtULTRA founder, Alice Black, noticed the limited support available directly to individual artists during the pandemic, The Hari and ArtULTRA are partnering to offer a special opportunity to early-career artists to use the hotel spaces into artist residency studios. The hotel residency will offer two emerging artists a space to create their work, followed by the opportunity to exhibit their pieces in The Hari's sought-after public spaces for the summer.
Art has long been in the DNA of The Hari and the exposed brick walls of the lobby and The Hari Bar host an impressive collection of contemporary works on a curated rolling programme. Following the success of the “Class of 2020” exhibition, where the hotel offered the opportunity for graduating artists from a range of London art schools and colleges to exhibit their artwork in The Hari's public spaces, the hotel is delighted to show their support to emerging artists once again.
Andrew Coney, General Manager at The Hari comments: “We absolutely felt for these emerging talents. Through the various lockdowns and limited support of the past year, they have been prevented from accessing studio time to create their pieces and showcasing their fantastic art in potential career-launching shows. We are thrilled to be able to offer them a location to do so.”
Alice Black, Founder of ArtULTRA comments: “I am delighted to be working with The Hari, to offer this opportunity to early-career artists. During the research we carried out last year, two things became clear. Emerging artists need affordable spaces to work in and they need exposure. In London, studio spaces have become so expensive, they are out of reach for them. The ability to have complete freedom to work on projects of their choice, in a spectacular surrounding as well as to showcase their work, when it is so hard for early-career artists to be seen, is really amazing.”
