The Great Sussex Way, who manage tourism for the Chichester District, have connected local vineyards, Ashling Park Estate, Tinwood Estate and Upperton Estate designing a new cycle route for visitors to explore with a guaranteed glass of exceptional English Sparkling Wine on arrival.
Visitors, of course, can choose to do the tour by car, but people are encouraged to undertake the challenge by bike, or e-bike with Southern eBike Rentals who have helped develop the routes. Each route offers something unique. The first traverses the relatively flat planes, which are overlooked by the South Downs to the north, and only covers around 8 miles. The two remaining routes to Upperton are more challenging and include both off-road and on-road sections. Depending on the route, they cover 14.5mi and 21.7mi, so it would be well worth taking your time and booking into a local B&B to rest your legs overnight.
Danielle Dunfield, CEO The Great Sussex Way:
“In West Sussex we produce the finest wines in England, so it is fantastic to offer visitors a unique way to enjoy our award-winning vineyards. As the Capital of English Sparkling Wine, it is incumbent on us to take the lead and bring these phenomenal wineries together to offer the full grape to glass experience. The Great Sussex Wine Tour has been designed holistically to encompass our brilliant local businesses. Visitors can create their perfect get-away with stop-offs at our classic country pubs, farm shops and much more. After the year we've all just had, this is the perfect great escape.”
