The Great Himalaya Trail Heads Out For Its 10th Anniversary

World Expeditions UK

The Full Nepal Traverse of the Great Himalaya Trail, often referred to as “trekking's holy grail”, headed out on Monday 24 February 2020 for its 10th anniversary.

Available exclusively through World Expeditions, the Great Himalaya Trail is a truly exploratory venture. Over five months, this year's participants, Tania Groesslinger from Australia and Manu Bourmalo from France, will cover 1,700 kilometres across Nepal, from Kanchenjunga in the east to Yari Valley in the west.

Following trails up to 6,190 metres above sea, all of Nepal's 8,000m peaks can be viewed along the way, while trekkers also have the opportunity to experience remote cultures in hidden corners of the country.

For logistical reasons, the Great Himalaya Trail can only run once a year; however, it is broken into seven smaller stages from 18-34 days that can be joined separately, giving the opportunity to experience the iconic trail on its 10th anniversary to keen trekkers who have not physically trained for the five-month trek, cannot afford the money (the trek costs more than £20,000) or are not able to be away for such a long period of time.

The 10th anniversary of the Great Himalaya Trail will come to an end on 22 July. In 2021, the trek is scheduled to depart on 25 February.
