Polish National Tourist Office

The Groteska Theatre invites everyone to the Great Dragon Festival, with the Dragon Family Picnic on the Saturday that will be held on the Vistula Boulevards next to the Dragon's Cave in Krakow.

The Great Outdoor Light and Sound Show on the Vistula River will combine pyrotechnic effects with music, lights and water displays.  The show will also feature large floating and flying dragons up to 25m in length and 15m in height.

The amazing creatures on barges and ships will be animated by actors of the Groteska Theatre.  This year, the pageant will include dragons, whose designs are inspired by traditions and folk culture.

An interesting structured programme of competitions, displays, games and fun awaits visitors to the Picnic.

The Great Parade of Dragons on Sunday will bring together more than a thousand children from all around the country who will animate their own four metre high or even larger dragons that they have designed and built themselves.

All the dragons compete for the title of the most eye-catching and the most ingenious.  The colourful procession, with music and the roars of the dragons is accompanied by dancers, orchestras, stilt walkers and jugglers, will pass through the streets of old Krakow.

For a few hours, everyone becomes an actor in this great outdoor spectacle that is watched by thousands of residents of Krakow and tourists that have arrived specially for this event.

The theme of this year's parade refers to folk traditions and folklore, according to which the children and young people, under the guidance of teachers and guardians, have created the models of their dragons.
