Led by our appointed historian, The Fullerton Heritage Guided Tour will take guests on a journey to discover the rich heritage and interesting anecdotes behind The Fullerton Hotel. The Fullerton Building was originally built in 1928 and was named after Sir Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements, to celebrate the 100th year of the founding of Singapore by the British. It was the biggest and most ambitious project of its time - the largest structure ever built in Singapore and sited on the former Fort Fullerton which guarded the city at the mouth of the Singapore River. It was to be, in the words of the Governor "a monument worthy of the city". As it was home to the General Post Office, The Exchange, Chamber of Commerce and The Singapore Club, The Fullerton Building became the centre of Singapore's commercial, social and official life. Over the years, the Building witnessed the nation's progress from its prominent position along Singapore's waterfront and began a new chapter in its illustrious history with its restoration into The Fullerton Hotel in 2001.

The Fullerton Heritage Guided Tour will take you on a journey to several historical points of interest within and around the Hotel including the former main entrance of the General Post Office, Post Bar (where a 300-feet long postal counter used to be), the Straits Room (formerly the Billiard Room of the prestigious Singapore Club, the Straits Room - converted into a function room today - features a conserved coffered ceiling which is the only double barrel-vaulted example in Singapore) and The Lighthouse (The Fullerton Hotel's Italian restaurant which used to house a beacon that guided ships approaching Singapore's shores from 1958 to 1979).

The tour will end at The Fullerton Heritage Gallery which is located at the lobby level of the Hotel. The 800-square foot gallery features displays that include photographs, maps, stamps and philatelic materials, some of which date back to 1932. One of the highlights includes a Red Pillar Post Box, which found its way to the streets of Singapore in 1873 during the British Colonial rule.

A Maritime Journey Guided Tour

Day/time: Fridays from 5.00pm to 6.00pm and Sundays from 10.00am to 11.00am

Registration: Call The Fullerton Bay Hotel's Concierge at (65) 6597 5312

In order to provide a personalized experience, each session is limited to twelve participants.

Let our historian take you on a walking tour to learn about the storied past and historical significance of the conserved buildings Clifford Pier, Customs House and The Fullerton Waterboat House. While these buildings are situated along today's Marina Bay waterfront, they were part of Singapore's historic waterfront, played important roles in Singapore's maritime history and saw the arrival of our country's early settlers.

Fondly remembered as "Red Lantern Pier" as red oil lamps used to hang from the pier as a guide to seafarers, Clifford Pier (1933) was named after a former Governor, Sir Hugh Charles Clifford. One of the city's historic landmarks, it used to be the first port of call for immigrants and thereafter, a ferry terminal for small boats and ferries heading for the Southern Islands until 2006. Today, Clifford Pier functions as the arrival area of The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore.

Completed in the late 1960s, the building, formerly known as the Customs Harbour Branch, was the headquarters of the Singapore Customs Police. It was one of the earliest public buildings in

Singapore to be built in a modern style and watched over one of the world's busiest harbours during an era of a booming shipping and trade scene. Customs House has now been converted to a choice destination for fine dining and entertainment.

The Waterboat House was built in 1919 at the mouth of the Singapore River to supply fresh water to incoming ships. The Port of Singapore Authority took over the building in 1960 and it continued to provide fresh water to small boats which ferried the water to bigger ships anchored offshore till 1990. The colonial building was conserved and in 2002, re-launched as The Fullerton Waterboat House with a choice selection of fine and casual restaurants and bars. Located next to the tranquil Singapore River and historic Anderson Bridge, the building has a special charm of its own.

You will also gain insight into the unique architectural features and restoration works done to the structures on the hour-long tour.
