When was the last time you visited Colorado? From snowcapped peaks and crisp mountain air to crystal-clear rivers and sprawling evergreen forests, Colorado is not only undeniably beautiful but thanks to its many year-round activities, it's also the perfect place for a romantic retreat, a family getaway, destination weddings or to host a business meeting and unforgettable corporate retreats.
Nestled next to the Rocky Mountains, situated on 3,000 acres of lush parkland in Colorado Springs, The Broadmoor recently announced a $90 million renovation. Designed to elevate the overall guest experience, the multi-phase renovation includes the expansion and redesign of 150 guestrooms and suites, updates to select food and beverage outlets and the addition of a new activity facility.
“We are extremely pleased with this multi-faceted renovation. The designs perfectly complement The Broadmoor's classic ambiance, refinement and original grandeur,” said Steve Bartolin, President, The Broadmoor.
A variety of renovations were completed in April 2013, including a new restaurant in Broadmoor West called “PLAY,” that includes not only a unique twist to traditional bowling food, but also sports six lanes of bowling. In addition, Golden Bee pub, a popular dining destination for locals and guests, has been expanded, doubling the interior capacity while adding a new, tented rooftop garden with food and beverage service. The expansion also includes a new façade that mirrors the traditional 19th century pubs of Great Britain. The Tavern restaurant introduces an impressive new European-style conservatory atrium called Le Jardin, along with a new design for the former Mayan Room, now called Entre Deux. Both pay homage to the original intent of the Tavern which was to display the lithographs and posters of Toulouse Lautrec. The Tavern menu has also been changed with more steakhouse-type offerings and more seafood dishes.
Just eight miles west of The Broadmoor, bordering more than 100,000 acres of the Pike National Forest, The Ranch at Emerald Valley is an intimate retreat offering refined rustic luxury inspired by the charm of a wilderness enclave. Fly fish in pristine mountain lakes, hike scenic trails, explore the mountains on horseback or watch for birds and wildlife. At the end of the day, soak in the lakeside hot tub, curl up fireside with a good book, or sip a fine wine while enjoying the Colorado sunset.
The all-inclusive hideaway features ten cabins, sleeping a total of 32 guests. Each building is lovingly refurbished in mountain cabin style offering beautifully appointed rooms highlighted by wood burning fireplaces. Meals are prepared by a Broadmoor chef and served in the gracious Grand Lodge, where guests gather around the large stone hearth, enjoy pre and post-dinner cocktails at the bar while taking in the scenic mountain and lake views from an expansive terrace.
One of the most unique features of The Ranch at Emerald Valley is the unparalleled guest access to amenities at The Broadmoor. With just a phone call, guests of The Ranch are whisked down the mountain for golf, tennis, spa, swimming and shopping. The Ranch at Emerald Valley opens August 1, 2013. In November 2013, attention turns to Broadmoor West with the expansion of existing guest rooms and baths. An additional three stories will be added to the building, including an additional 31 rooms with four major suites. The West exterior entry, porte-cochere and drive will reflect The Broadmoor's original Main building. The existing lobby will be re-imagined, with beautiful woods, hand worked tiles and new furniture and fabrics. In addition, the existing space where Charles Court restaurant is currently located will be changed into an Italian restaurant, further enhancing the fine dining options at The Broadmoor. Designed by Adam D. Tihany, widely regarded as the preeminent hospitality designer in the world, the restaurant, called Ristorante del Lago, will feature décor reminiscent of a classic Italian villa on Lake Cuomo and a menu focused on fresh ingredients and authentic recipes.
In May of 2014, The Broadmoor will introduce another part to it's unique Wilderness Experience: Cloud Camp. Located atop Cheyenne Mountain at an elevation of 9,200 feet, Cloud Camp overlooks The Broadmoor and the plains to the east, Pikes Peak to the north and the Colorado Rockies to the west. A scenic 25-minute drive from The Broadmoor, the site is currently under development and consists of an 8,000 square foot Main Lodge and eleven guest cabins.
The Main Lodge features a Great Room for guest congregation, with a dining area, bar and two stone fireplaces, along with an expansive timber wrap-around deck offering picturesque mountain views. Seven guest accommodations are located in the Main Lodge, including a luxurious Honeymoon Suite perched on a rock outcropping adjacent to the Main Lodge building. Interiors are rustic, yet elegant.
The eleven cabins are a short walk from the Main Lodge, with beautiful views of Pikes Peak and Pike National Forest. Each cabin features private porches with swings, rocking chairs and hand-crafted wood railings, with some cabins offering a loft space or two bedrooms.
Cloud Camp activities include hiking, nature walks, archery, arts and crafts, cookouts and other culinary events.
“Cloud Camp is modeled after the historic timber and stone lodges found in some of our great national parks,” says Mr. Steve Bartolin, President and CEO of The Broadmoor. “Featuring Cloud Camp as part of our Broadmoor Wilderness Experience offerings, allows us to offer some of the most unique and imaginative accommodation offerings, while continuing to secure our position as America's premier resort.”
With its 100th anniversary in 2018 fast approaching, The Broadmoor continues to announce news surrounding property renovations that will further underscore its reputation as the premier resort. Located 15 minutes from the Colorado Springs Airport, The Broadmoor is easily accessible with more than 80 daily flights, as well as connecting flights from every major U.S. hub through Denver, only 70 minutes away.
