THE CAVENDISH HOTEL OFFERS A MODERN DAY GRAND TOUR EXPERIENCE
The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow set on the Chatsworth Estate is offering guests a contemporary cultural experience to discover treasures of a 21st century Grand Tour.
Once the rite of passage for the aristocratic elite in the 17th and 18th centuries when they embarked on a cultural tour of Europe, the Grand Tour is back in vogue but firmly on British soil. A formative cultural adventure of the 18th century traveller interpreted anew by some of today's most exciting artists, it is a co-operation of leading galleries and stately homes put together by Experience Nottinghamshire and Visit Peak District & Derbyshire.
Staying at the Cavendish Hotel, visitors can discover a 21st century Grand Tour of rarely seen art by visiting the Peak District's and Nottingham's galleries, museums and stately homes. They will see works from great private collections alongside contemporary art by Peter Blake and Rem Koolhaas. There is the exceptional opportunity to see for the first time pieces from Chatsworth's private collection; works of art and antiquities which are a legacy of the Grand Tour tradition.
The four star hotel, with interiors overseen by the Duchess of Devonshire, itself houses 300 paintings and original works of art from the Devonshire Collection. The bedrooms and reception rooms offer uninterrupted southerly views across the countryside and it's a pleasant walk across the parkland or a 2 minutes' drive to visit Chatsworth.
An exclusive Grand Tour package is offered at £195 per couple staying in a double or twin room, with that view, including county breakfast and a welcome bottle of Laurent Perrier on arrival. It also includes the Grand Tour passport which gives discount vouchers for the exhibition venues across both counties and £5 off entry to Chatsworth.
To book on this special rate which offers a saving on the standard tariff use Promotion Code GTPCAV when booking online at www.cavendish-hotel.net or calling the hotel on 01246 582311.

Notes:
The historic property in the pretty village of Baslow was originally the famous Peacock Inn, owned by the Duke of Rutland, although it is uncertain exactly how old it is. The hotel became part of the Duke of Devonshire's estate around 1830 and in the early 1970s was restored and restyled as the Cavendish Hotel. The Duchess of Devonshire oversees the design of the interior and throughout the hotel there are 300 pieces of original artwork.
There are two restaurants - the Gallery Restaurant which has continuously held 2 AA rosettes since 2006, and the light and airy Garden Room. The Kitchen Table provides diners with a thrilling dining experience – a 'royal box' table where they can enjoy a bespoke menu in the theatre of the kitchen.
There are 22 bedrooms and 2 suites – recently refurbished, each with its individual theme and design including original art and occasional antique furniture. Views are of the surrounding the countryside.
Just one room does not face due south over the countryside.
There is a private room for luncheons, dinner parties and meetings.
The hotel's location is ideal for sight-seeing and exploring. As the closest hotel to the House and Garden at Chatsworth, it is a short walk across the fields and park. The Derbyshire Dales with all their attractions are right on the doorstep.
The General Manager, Philip Joseph, has been at the hotel since 2001.
The Head Chef since 2011 is Mike Thompson.
