The Captain�s Choice Tour offers deluxe escorted tours that are flexible and include destinations that are often inaccessible, unavailable, logistically daunting or almost impossible to combine in one tour for independent travellers. New for 2009 is the 14-day India by Private Train tour, designed to take in the very best of Northern India. The tour is historical, spiritual and cultural and offers guests a sophisticated culinary experience in luxurious surroundings. Travelling across India on private train the Deccan Odyssey, tour highlights include the country�s most spectacular cities such as Fatehpur Sikri, Mumbai, Delhi, the �pink city� of Jaipur and Agra. The tour dedicates a full day to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Taj Mahal, in magical Agra. Guests will be able to witness the ancient ritual of cleansing oneself in the waters of the River Ghange, in Varansai, the holiest place in India. In Silguri, guests join the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, otherwise known as the �toy train�. The journey takes guests 2000m through spectacular scenery to the tranquil Indian hill station of Darjeeling. For an enhanced experience, guests can extend their journey for another six nights to visit Bhutan, an enchanted kingdom in a hidden corner of the Eastern Himalaya. Alternatively, guests can choose to extend the tour to include Nepal. Tours start from �7,495 per person, based on twin share in economy class, including flights. Tour departs 6th April 2009.
The new Thailand Explorer, which focuses solely on central and Northern Thailand, allows visitors an in-depth exploration of Thailand�s scenic, culinary, historical and cultural offerings. The journey takes in bustling Bangkok, the River Kwai, Sukhothai, Chiang Seng and Chiang Mai in the north, over 13-days. Tour highlights include an exploration of the ancient Bhuddist Kingdom of Sukhothai, a visit to the River Kwai region where Australian, Dutch and British POW were forced to construct two bridges that formed part of the Burma railway, a journey to the infamous region of the Golden Triangle, and a visit to the Hall of Opium and the Doi Tung Botanical Gardens in Chiang Seng. Select experiences on the tour include visiting a local orphanage, participating in a Thai cooking class, or making merit at a temple. For an additional cost, guests can extend the tour by joining the luxurious Eastern Oriental Express, which offers a different perspective of Thailand�s magnificent landscape. Tours start at �4,495 per person, based on two sharing a room on an economy basis, including flights. Tours depart on 15th January 2009 and 26th January 2010.
Other new tours featured in the programme include the 22-day Cross & Crescent in the Middle Ages tour, which explores the deeply fascinating countries of Turkey, Syria, Tunisia and Spain. The new Antarctica Cruise, on board Silversea �Prince Albert II�, takes guests on a breath taking journey from Rio de Janeiro to Antarctica via Buenos Aires, with the option to visit Machu Picchu afterwards. For those wanting to stay closer to home, the new 20-day Portugal & Northern Spain tour, offers guests a luxurious way to explore the less visited areas of these fascinating countries by river ship and private train.
