The Breakers Surfing & Diving Lodge at Somabay has reopened its doors to guests following a full-scale renovation in Q1 of this year. Promising guests an elevated experience while still retaining the relaxed feel of The Breakers, the 173 rooms and on-site restaurant have been transformed into a modern hub, offering an elegant boho aesthetic - perfectly complementing the laidback vibe of the destination.
The renovation has seen the introduction of new inventory at the hotel, with the launch of the expansive XL Lifestyle Rooms. With six spacious suites now available, each offers either a spectacular sunrise or an enchanting sunset view, providing the perfect backdrop to a stay at Somabay. Guests looking to upgrade their existing bookings to the new XL Lifestyle Rooms can do so by contacting the hotel directly.
The hotel's beachfront restaurant has also been transformed to reflect its stunning natural surroundings, with light colours and natural tones having been incorporated to further establish the relaxed beachside feel of The Breakers Surfing & Diving Lodge. Retaining the hotel's boho aesthetic, the restaurant has weaved in traditional elements of Egyptian culture taking inspiration while also paying tribute to Somabay's heritage.
The newly renovated restaurant has also updated it vegetarian and vegan offering, providing a wider variety of dedicated dishes to meet the growing demand for meat-free options from travellers. Additionally, the in-house bakery is not to be missed for a delicious breakfast or afternoon sweet treat, with a wide variety of baked goods prepared daily, including the hotel's famous dark wholegrain bread.
Throughout the renovation, sustainability was a key consideration and as a result, the amount of construction waste throughout the project was reduced by approximately 90% when compared with a standard hotel renovation in the region. The design process also had sustainability at front of mind, with the interiors all made from natural materials and produced by local craftsmen where possible, to minimise the environmental impact and to support the local community, which is a key commitment of Somabay.
Guests who were familiar with The Breakers Surfing & Diving Lodge prior to the renovation will still get to enjoy the laidback environment they know and love. Located just a short 8-minute bus ride from the 7Bft Kitehouse, both experienced and novice kiters alike will delight in experiencing one of the top three kitesurfing locations in the world, while windsurfers can enjoy Somabay's 300 on average days of wind a year of wind. Home to more than 20 different dive sites, including the famous 'Salem Express' shipwreck, The Breakers Surfing & Diving Lodge is perfect for guests looking to explore the scenic underwater world of Somabay – with majority of the rooms at the hotel also enjoying views of the house reef and 420-metre-long jetty.
