The Boomers Have Arrived

YOURLifeChoices

Recently released Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data shows the peak age group of short-term departures has moved from 45-49 in 2002 to 50-54 in 2012.  The boomers have arrived, they are transitioning into retirement and they are keen to take on the world.

The YOURLifeChoices website 2013 Lifestyle Survey received 5,200+ responses from 50-75-year-old members, sharing information about how often they travel, where they do their planning, how they prefer to book ...and their preferred destinations, both domestic and international.

How do older Australians research their travel?  An overwhelming 81 per cent of YOURLifeChoices subscribers say they start online—in preference to a travel agent (26 per cent) or taking advice from a friend (20 per cent). However, when it comes to booking, 51 per cent use both a local travel agent and websites.

So where do these older Australians want to go?  Which state is their favourite?  (sunny Queensland) And which do they like the least? (ACT)

And when heading overseas, which countries are on their bucket list?

 - UK

 - NZ

 - USA

Key talking points are:

with so many older Australians travelling, why does travel marketing only feature 25-year-olds frolicking in the surf?what sets older travellers apart from younger ones? And what exactly is a user-friendly environment for older Australians?
