Weather forecasters may be predicting a summer washout in the UK, but there is still time to arrange a trip to the South-West of France. At Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa luxury summer picnics, a new home-made ice-cream cart and cocktails on the Rooftop Terrace have been added to the menu.
Situated in La Place de La Comédie square in the heart of buzzing Bordeaux opposite the Opera House, Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa is the ideal place to sit and watch the world go by in the sunshine. A new 19th century-style ice-cream cart filled with home-made ice-creams and sorbets is now parked in front of The Bordeaux brasserie. Both adults and children alike can choose from a wide range of flavours from traditional chocolate and vanilla ice-cream to an exotic selection of sorbets including apple, litchi and pineapple with Sichuan pepper made by the hotel's Michelin-starred Executive Chef Pascal Nibaudeau.
If venturing out from the city to the picturesque Arcachon Bay just 40 minutes from the hotel, guests can take with them a luxury picnic, or a 'poshnic' prepared Nibaudeau. The chef uses the highest quality regional produce including Aquitaine caviar and local charcuterie together with the finest ingredients France has to offer such as blue lobster from Brittany. The food menu is matched with a choice of Bordeaux wine from the hotel's bottle cellars.
After spending an afternoon at the beach, back at the hotel guests can soak in the last of the sun's rays from the wraparound roof terrace, offering exceptional 360° far-reaching views across the rooftops of Bordeaux and the Garonne River. The terrace transforms in the evening to become the 'Night Beach' rooftop bar with a DJ playing upbeat live lounge music. Open from 7pm to 1am, guests can enjoy one of the new signature cocktails such as the Champagne-based 'Cap Ferret' or the tequila-based 'Night Moon', against a stunning backdrop of the sun setting across Bordeaux.
Located in the Bordeaux-Aquitaine, Bordeaux offers spectacular 18th century architecture, a range of cultural activities, designer shopping a stone's throw from the hotel as well as the majestic ch'teaux of the surrounding region.
Rates for a superior room at Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa start from €321 (approx. £274), including daily breakfast. British Airways flies from London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester to Bordeaux daily.
